Looking at the scoreboard, it has been a year for the Panthers we don’t really need to discuss, but we are still dang fortunate to be able to watch football from the prettiest host city in the NFL. Regardless of the score, you can always look good cheering for the home team. Don’t even get me started on my girl Hodges’ Panthers Game Day Look. Hodges Miller is a former Carolina Panther TopCat and current Field Assistant to the TopCats. Hodges never misses a beat off the field, and as you can see in her Staud NFL Collection dress, she is hitting ALL the marks on the sidelines too. Shop The Edit + Get The Look!

Carry Media—Back to School Target Edition

I could NOT be more excited about this next What She Wore collaboration with Carry Media. Founded by former Good Morning America and The View Co-Host, Wife, Working Mom, Emmy award-winning journalist and author, Paula Faris, as a full time working mama, it is an absolute joy and thrill to serve as fashion and style contributor to this phenomenal media group dedicated to celebrating, championing and advocating for working moms by passing them the mic. As we all know, back-to-school is back in full swing, and so we thought why not give all the working moms of the world an opportunity to have just as much fun with their back to school looks as the kiddos?!

And, while I love a fab designer look as much as the next person, what I REALLY love is creating the very most chic, one of a kind looks without breaking the bank. I hope you will enjoy my below pics (and picks!) from a recent trip to our local Target, where you can shop the post and get the look. Be sure to head on over to my Instagram to see me style it all together!

What She Wore - Gia

Shop The Edit HERE + Get The Look

I was stopped mid sip of my morning cup when @gorgiaous11 walked through the door at @waterbeancoffee during a business meeting with @piedmontpennies over coffee. I couldn’t help but get up, introduce myself, inquire about her gorgeous look following up with an ask, of course, to see her if she would be a part of my What She Wore series. Gia was on her way into the office stopping in for her own to go cup. Can we all just celebrate a moment over face-to-face interaction?! But first, if Gia’s look isn’t how office attire was meant to be, then I don’t know anything about the price of tea in China!

What She Wore: Sophie Laliashvili

I was stopped in my tracks upon encountering this gorgeous girl as I walked to the door of dynamo Charlotte consignment store, JT Posh, last week for a meeting. Not to mention that killer ensemble she has put together. I immediately exclaimed to Sophie, “Oh, is that Dodo Bar Or?!” If you know the brand, with those burnt tones of orange, brown and mustard yellow with a splash of black and sometimes white, you know exactly why I asked her the question! As it turns out, Sophie’s dress was a more accessible but equally chic version from Free People. Her dress is currently sold out on the site, but Isabelle selected two similar options for you, one Dodo Bar Or, and another from the currently very popular Farm Rio line. Sophie expertly personalized her ensemble with a handmade collar by Tatas Naqargebi, whimsical glitter pearl ankle socks and cult popular t-strap sky high (at least in Charlotte), Swedish Hasbeens. What She Wore: Working Lunch On The Patio

Isabelle.jpg

What She Wore: Working Lunch On The Patio. Effortless, as always, and the sweetest smile to boot, my Marketing Assistant, Isabelle Pringle, is the ultimate IT girl on arrival. Talk about lucky—that was me with a happenstance meeting with Isabelle’s Mom the very first day of the shut down. Isabelle was stuck in customs on her way back from a fashion studies program in Lodon. She was supposed to be headed to NYC for an internship with shoe designer Sam Edelman.

What started as a friendly hello and “What in the world is going on with this virus,” led to one of the gretest additions to my team I’ve ever had. Writing Isabelle’s letter of recommendation to Parson’s for graduate school was one of the greatest honors of my career. While I’m super excited for her, I’d by lying if I didn’t say I’m super excited for me that Covid taught us better than ever how to work remotely!

These fun collages are just one of the bajuillion things that Isabelle has created. Shop her look below, and wish her luck this coming fall—though I know she will be a rockstar there just as she has been here!

What She Wore: Going Glamorous

Isabelle has done such a beautiful job with helping me bring back the What She Wore posts, I’m not sure what I’ll do when summer is over and she goes back to school for her senior year of college! Alas, I am making the most of every single second with her now. I love and want ALL of the items she chose to recreate my Grandmother’s Friday Night Party with the Neighbors look. As my Great-Grandmother would say… I mean, afterall, well, you know! HOW CHIC can one really be?

What She Wore 3.jpg

Lucky ducky for you and me and the rest of us, we can all be this dang chic with Isabelle’s linked items. I am having a VERY hard time getting past the lamp, ginger jar and ceramic plate to get to the pumps, clutch, long gloves and gown!!!

But Wait, There’s More…

What She Wore: Clean and Crisp

I thought it would be fun to recreate the image Lucky Magazine published in their November, 2011 issue. This is really where the Queen City Style all started. I’ve been a very lucky lady for the past couple of months having Isabelle on my team, helping me with all kinds of projects. Isabelle was supposed to be in New York City interning with Sam Edelman for the summer, but because of Covid-19, like the rest of the world, she was not able to travel for a now nonexistent opportunity. Here is the original article. Speaking of Sam Edelman, I’m kinda digging these studded gladiator sandals.

And below is Isabelle’s outfit recreation. Bear it mind, she had not seen the original before putting the new one together. Both are great, but I gotta go with Isabelle’s version! I absolutely LOVE the Lee Matthews two-toned tencil polo shirt, and those round framed Acetate sunnnies… TOO chic.

The Return of What She Wore: Getting Groovy

About three years ago I started writing a series on the Queen City Style called “What She Wore.” During a very welcomed period of long continous growth with my styling business, this meant the Queen City Style blog has over time taken a back seat. One of the many more recently welcomed spaces that has come with the slower pace of life during quarantine is a chance to get back to where it all began for me; sharing my passion for all things stylish here on the Queen City Style. With that, thanks to the help of some very talented (younger/more with it/ hipper) people, I have been able to do my own little bit of work toward getting with the fancier software times. For starters, you know I got a new website (thanks Emily). If you haven’t seen, I would love for your to check it out. And, in this case, the What She Wore series has also gotten a fancier new format. Thank you Isabelle!

It seems only apropos to start with a little inspiration from where the inspiration all started, the style of my Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. In this image, it appears they are having cocktails; I’m going to go with before a debutante ball party (or perhaps a wedding), but something tells me they are sitting in a room at the Velvet Cloak Inn (RIP) or somewhere similar before a Terpsichorean Ball party. I just love their outfits, the mad style, and of course, there they are drinking from their little hotel cups looking chic as ever.

What She Wore: To The Fair

My girl Linsey was looking adorable as always on a recent trip to the Fair.  Over the course of her last trip home to North Carolina from Nashville, we got to do a little shopping. I love this girl for a lot of reasons, but I think the thing I love about her most is that she is ALL Linsey.  100% true to herself; no impostor stuff going on here.  I know Linsey from her work on set as a model.  Every once in a while when she comes home to visit family, she heads down the mountain, and I get to see her.  It is always fun to take friends out for a shopping spin in the QC, and I loved helping Linsey pick out some things to fit her personal style.  So why don't ya just go ahead?  Part your hair down the middle, throw in some braids, put on your overalls and a smile, grab your funnel cake, hot dog, ice cream cone (or whatever the h&ll that thing is... a brisket on a stick??) head to the fair, and get your cute self on.

Shop Linsey's look below, or click HERE if you are unable to see the below images.

What She Wore: Stephen Wilson Art Meets Fashion At Capitol

I first met my sweet friend Renee at the Neiman Marcus store in Charlotte.  I'll never forget our chance encounter.  She was walking out, I was on my way into the store picking up items for a photo shoot.  I feel sure it was one of those days I was running (literally), outfitted in mismatched sweaty running gear.  She recognized me from my Instagram account and approached me looking so so sheek. She always does.  My friend is a beautiful warm one, inside and out, but I must say how much I love that she always dresses so put together. She takes the time and makes an effort with her appearance.  I feel that when we do make the extra effort it is a way of saying "I respect you and I respect myself."  Wearing a simple but elegant LoveShackFancy white cotton sundress topped off with a Zara tweed jacket, paired with sandals from Ann Taylor, pearl earrings and her trusty Chanel quilted purse, Renee recently looked stunning at the Stephen Wilson talk and exhibit at Capitol.

Renee Starke.JPG

Don't get me wrong, I know it is not always easy to do this every time we leave the house.  Sometimes we simply to do not have enough time to go the extra mile.  We are all so busy, moving at such high speeds from this thing to the next.  But then, as another super stylish friend pointed out to me...

Something to think about.  Just sayin'.  Shop Renee's look for yourself or click HERE if you are unable to see the below images.

What She Wore: Fairy Girl

Today's What She Wore is so fun and creative, I couldn't help but share with you!  Lydia's creativity and personal style of layering clothing items is all her own.  While layering is an achievable one and a great way to display your own unique style, it is one that when mastered comes by way of both intentional thought and great creativity. This is both A brain AND B brain going on here.  I remember the first time I met Lydia's now husband, Scott.  I said to him "your sweet girlfriend reminds me of a fairy!" And with that, Scott lovingly replied, "that's what I call her."  Love, love.

Layering ensures no one else will have your look.  And let's not forget all those luscious details.

Up Close Fairy Girl.JPG

I'm a sucker for a romantic lace blouse, and I do think this one is exquisite!

Truth be told, I've never owned a pair of moccasins.  This pair marries boho + glam just splendidly!  This are the pair Lydia wears.
