As mentioned previously, I knew I wanted to create a fun Valentine's Day post, part of which entailed finding the perfect red dress.  I hopped on over to Belk Southpark to take a stroll through their expansive occasions section, and I found two to which I could not say no, this being the second.  Petit Philippe wine and chocolate room served as our location. I had my hair cut just prior to this shoot. (The shortest it's been in 15 years!)  What do you think?  While my girl, Aurora, was doing her thing to my hair, Perri gave me fantastic face.  Needless to say, I felt pretty darn special getting all gussied up. Stylistically, this is one of my favorite shoots to date.  I hope you like! PS-Several of you ladies have inquired about my charming date for this shoot.  Handsome Nick is engaged to be married to an equally beautiful gal.  Ladies, let's wish them all the best!  On that note, need a photographer for your engagement photos? Donna is the one and only!!

Thanks so much for being here!

I had so much fun shooting with Jason and Donna atReid's Fine Foods, Charlotte's original hometown specialty food store.  You all know how much know my pension for all things refined and vintage, and this love affair does not only pertain to clothes. Founded in 1928, Reid's is a living, eating, drinking, celebrated long-standing member of the Charlotte community.  Reid's is known for their award winning butcher and wine shops, as well as a destination for on-site cooking and tasting programs. Reid's is friendly service wrapped in southern style; a modern day nod to a time when things were a little slower, more simple, always classic and never lacking for style. Reid's ambiance is transformed by one of my favorite designers, Charlotte's own Barrie Benson, by representation of her swank signature style throughout the atmosphere. Head to Reid's for all your shopping needs, your next wine tasting, date night or girls night out.  You will not want to return from such a delightful step back in time.

Thanks for being here with me, Whitley

I knew I wanted to create a fun Valentine's Day post, but it wasn't until Donna put the bug in my ear for having gorgeous flowers on set that I had to have it all... the perfect location, the most amazing red dress I could find (I found two!), and of course, a handsome 'date' for this romantic evening.  Petit Philippe wine and chocolate room immediately came to mind when searching for the location.  It also makes a fantastic spot for my girls book club who meets to talk about great wine. You can't tell in these images, but I have chopped my locks seriously. Excited for a change, and I hope you will like!  While my girl, Aurora, was doing her thing to my hair, Perri gave me fantastic face.  A photo shoot, yes, but all of the aforementioned combined ingredients make for a fantastically delicious day of love.

Lots of love to you!!

Celebrate In Vintage

Dress: Vintage, from hong kong vintage. Boots: Corral Boots from Mexico. Clutch: ASOS, last seen here. Necklace: My Grandmother-in-law's. Earrings: Gifted. Rings: My Grandmother's, Tiffany, custom by Diamonds Direct.

I recently had the pleasure of celebrating my friend Sonya Barnes at the 10 year anniversary party for her image consulting firm, Harris & Barnes.  This vintage frock from hong kong vintage has been stowed away in my closet since I purchased it almost a year ago.  I always imagined wearing it to a Cinco de Mayo party or some similar festivity, but it jumped right out at me on this particular evening.  Perhaps not the most logical pairing (some things remain), the boots made a leap for me too.  And the clutch.  I like it when my clothes jump out at me, and I don't have to jump at them or jump up and down, because I am frustrated with them.  How about you?  Do you agree?  Do certain things in your wardrobe jump out at you?  More here from hong kong vintage.

Thanks so much for being here!

My Favorite LBD + Earrings Giveaway Winner

Back when I was collaborating with Run For Your Life on the Runner Fashion series, I wore this black dress for my street style interpretation of the black runner dress.  I have had this J. Crew favorite since I was 19 years old....getting close to half of my life (wow)!  Many little black dresses come and go, but not this one.  It is my go-to classic, I can count on you LBD.  While recently perusing one of my favorite on-line shopping sites, ASOS, I saw this one which looks very similar to mine!  Then, I noticed the price, so I had to share my find in case any of you are on the hunt. Get the details HERE.  Do you have a favorite LBD?

Bridesmaid Dress This Time With Floral Jacket

Dress: J. Crew (old), here's the current version. Jacket: c/o Cigi Guz. Shoes: Steve Madden. Gloves: My Great-Grandmother's, SO excited about this pair. Clutch: Coach (old), here's one. Sunglasses: Blinde, but here's a less expensive pair. Handkerchief: Gift from my Mother-In-Law. Broach: Belonged to my Grandmother-In-Law, here's one. My Earrings: Old, but I love these. Bracelets: Stella & Dot, my Grandmother's. I styled my favorite Bridesmaid dress as a top in yesterday's post, pairing it with the skirt that is the match to this gorgeous floral print jacket.  Had my own wedding been in the spring versus fall, I would have opted for my Bridesmaids to wear little white gloves like these which belonged to my Great-Grandmother.  I just love old sophistication.  It is clothes like these that make it hard for me to say goodbye to summer.  I love all these bright, saturated hues.  They are so fun and happy, which I think tend to make me fun and happy :). How about you?

Thanks so, so, so much for being here!!  Whitley

Style Night Out; What I Wore And...

We are heading into Fall, and it is still low 80's and sunny here in the Queen City.  I knew there would be an assortment of trending fall fashion at this event; lots of black, leather, peplums, studs and lace.  I love it all, but my worst fashion nightmare is looking the same as everybody else.  My friend and emerging designer, Cigi Guz, recently kindly gave this dress to me. I knew the clock was ticking on being able to wear it this year, so with my trusty denim jacket, I decided to non-apologetically break all the seasonal fashion rules.  I always say when it comes to fashion and style, wear what makes you feel good, so that is what I did.  Thanks to Cigi Guz for the beautiful dress and to BLo ouT for making me feel pretty with the perfect up do.

Dress: ASOS (old) from Cigi Guz. Jacket: Gap. Shoes: Steve Madden. Sunglasses: Blinde, but here's a less expensive pair. Earrings: Bauble Bar. Bracelets: Vintage. Rings: My Grandmother's, Tiffany and custom by Diamonds Direct. Hair: BLo ouT.

I've had the awesome experience of attending various fashion events and runway shows in NYC, be it for Fashion Week or some other unique experience, but Thursday, September 13th marked my first ever Style Night Out in Charlotte.  Actually, it marked my first experience with any major style event in Charlotte.  My previous line of work never really gave me a reason to attend such an event. I love style and I love fashion, so why in the world wouldn't I?  I will never forget being six weeks away from delivering Precious Peanut #2 and feeling much anxiety about managing everything effectively.  I ultimately made the decision to take a step back from my business, focus on family and let things fall into place as they may while hoping for the best.  It was a tough transition at first, then the Lucky story happened, which led me to the Queen City Style, which 9 months later has led me to here.  I am pursuing my passion, and I cannot put it down.  I've said from the beginning if I get nothing more out of this than pure joy, I will have achieved my goal.  My soul is so full, and I am skipping with every step.  I've never had more faith that when one door closes another opens.  This is that door.  I just want to say thank you very much for reading and keeping me so hungry for more!

Have a wonderful weekend!  Whitley

Classic Timeless

Dress: Gio' Guerreri from V. Vill. Shoes: Steve Madden. Purse: Prada, for sale at One Stop Stylish Consignment. Sunglasses: Blinde, but here's a less expensive pair. Scarf: H&M, here's one. Earrings: old. Bracelets: My Grandmother's and Stella & Dot. Rings: Tiffany and custom by Diamonds Direct

Perhaps you've noticed some of the fabulous garb from emerging designer Cigi Guz I've recently been styling.  A few months ago I visited Cigi's speakeasy boutique, V. Vill, for the first time; a little room tucked far in the back of mega thrift store Value Village.  I put one foot in the door and my soul was full.  My eyes saw everything magical and more than they could stand; one of a kind vintage fashions cleverly hung by color and pattern in a low lit room full of intrigue.  Quirky yet cool, unique character and style oozed all around me.  (I think I met my match in the form of a boutique! :)  Then, I nearly lost my breath when I put on this Italian made dress.  V. Vill has recently closed but only to make room for major excitement in store from Cigi Guz and her team of talent.  Join me at Style Night Out tonight to catch a glimpse first hand, and stay tuned to the Queen City Style for more!

For the love of classic style...

Thank you SO much for being here!!  xxWhitley

Guest Post On J's Everyday Fashion

Hello Everyone!  I am SO excited to be guest posting today on the wildly popular J's Everyday Fashion!  If you are visiting from J's blog and this were my home, I would welcome you in for a cup of tea or lemonade or the drink of your choice!  In any case, I welcome to the Queen City Style!  I hope you'll enjoy your visit here and that you will come again soon.

A friend introduced me to J's Everyday Fashion with a tip that J was calling for 12 bloggers to guest post while she was off to Africa.  I hopped on over to see what the recommendation was all about, and it made perfect sense.  Each of J's posts consist of an inspiration outfit and her own interpretation of that outfit.  She credits the individual pieces she wears and gives additional options for similar items.  The cherry on top; all of J's outfits are designed on a budget, so many of us can relate!  With close to 35,000 followers on Facebook alone, I was as giddy as a school girl to learn I made her short list!

J recreates an outfit by the always stylish Olivia Palermo in the above photo.  I've been looking for a similar black and white tuxedo blazer, so I nabbed this one for myself! At  $39.99, it's a steal!  Thanks SO MUCH, J, for this fun opportunity!  Visit J's Everyday Fashion here to see my outfit recreation!

For the love of discovering great style at a great price,

Thanks so much everyone for visiting the Queen City Style!  Whitley

PS:  Dying to share with you my new video intro!!

Double Take

As I shared in the original post, this vintage Lillie Rubin keyhole maxi gown that belonged to my mother is a wardrobe favorite.  Don't you feel sometimes they just don't make clothes like they used to?

Then they make us do a double take when they make it again.

I'm in love with this dress by ASOS Collection, the two colors available and the price.

What do you think?  If you love it, which color do you prefer?

For the love of great style, coming around again... Whitley xx

Easy Does It

Today's outfit is my street style interpretation of yesterday's runner fashion outfit, a black running dress.  I've never worn a dress to run in, but I'm kinda loving this one.  Really, it is suitable for tennis or golf and a host of other fitness activities!  The dress you see here is a J. Crew oldy but goody.  My oldest memory of wearing it, also paired with this bracelet, was to my Grandmother's funeral.  I remember having my very first scotch on the rocks at the after party hosted at my Grandparent's home.  Old family friend Mr. Harris, probably in his mid 80's at the time, asked me what I'd like to drink. I accepted whatever he was having, a "real drink," and to this day I don't see how anyone could enjoy that taste.  I'm guessing it's not about the taste.  At any rate, everyone was there to celebrate her, and we all did in great style, just like her.  The dress is simple but has served it's LBD purpose better than any other I own.  On this day, I kept the accessories to a minimum, pairing the dress with my newest favorite pair of slingbacks.  I think easy does it well.

Dress: J. Crew (old), but here's one. Shoes: Kate Spade Purse: Chanel. Sunglasses: Blinde, here's a similar pair. Earrings: (old) from J.T. Posh.  Bracelet: Belonged to my Great-Grandmother. Rings: Tiffany and Diamonds Direct.

For the love of keeping it easy, in great style...

Wear This To Your Next Cocktail Party

A long time friend of mine will be attending a cocktail party this weekend in celebration of her friends upcoming nuptials.  She emailed me seeking outfit ideas as an alternative to the lovely, but not so adventurous staple we all know, the little black dress. There certainly is a time and place for the LBD, but turning heads sometimes requires stepping out of your comfort zone.  Here on the Queen City Style, what I hope to convey, and perhaps even instill, is a sense of courage and confidence when getting dressed.  Particularly in Charlotte, I feel, there is lot of attraction toward fitting in with the crowd.  This is great, but is it adventurous and fun?  You don't always have to go and buy the currently most popular label straight off the rack.  Mix it up!  Use what you got!  Add an age old favorite blazer to the mix, grab your Grandmother's vintage purse, hit the thrift store for that one of a kind but inexpensive accessory to serve as the final touch.  Branch out while being true to yourself.  If you look in the mirror and you feel good, go with it.  Don't think for a second about anyone else.  If you feel good, it is right for you.  All that said, my dear friend, I hope some of these ideas will be just the right thing for you!  Have fun!

I'm big into wearing shorts at night.  The cut and shape are important. Here's a pair similar to mine. Pair them with a dressy top and pair of shoes.  Perhaps throw a blazer on top.  Or try this fun pair of shorts.  Add some black strappy sandals like these, or try mine as seen above, paired with a fabulous top like this, and I know you'll be turning heads!  A couple more outfits...

Left to Right: White Silk Top with Amethyst Collar, Black Tuxedo Jacket here in white, or here's a less expensive version in black, Mint and Black Contrast Trim Blazer, or here's the one I'm wearing, White Blouse, or here's a silk white tank, Green Sequin Short, ASOS Black Quilted Bag, Silver Sequin Knickers, Vintage Chanel Quilted Bag, Black Strappy Sandals, Purple Platform Heels, Zara Black Sandals.

Another fun spin for your next cocktail party is my personal favorite, the jumpsuit.

Salvatore Ferragamo Multicolored Belted Silk Jumpsuit

Here are a few I adore, paired with some fun shoes.

Left to Right: Coral Jumpsuit, Black Buckle Jumpsuit, Green, Black and White Jumpsuit, Strapless Jumpsuit with Tie, Black SandalCork Sandal, White and Red Pantsuit, Nude Sandal, Multicolored Jumpsuit, Black and Gold Sandal, Flower Jumpsuit, Black Ankle Strap Sandal, Black Strappy Sandal. For additional evening shorts, blazers and jumpsuits, some of my favorites on-line retailers include: ASOS, Shopbop, Net-a-Porter and Piperlime.  Enjoy!

For the love of unique and fun style, I hope you're having a great week! Whitley

Puttin' On The Ritz

I'm going to go ahead and qualify this as my favorite outfit post to date.  The more I do this thing, the Queen City Style, the more excited I become.  At times, I feel the tiger has been unleashed.  the Queen City Style has all but consumed my passion and become my release; perhaps a lonely rival, even, to my running.  How do I say?...  It's like I see my responsibility similar to that of an actor, portraying a different role with each ensemble.  Whether you give my styling an A+ or a D-, you reading this right now warrants a big 'ole thank you from the bottom of my heart.  I thank God for facilitating the courage to pursue my relief, and I hope you enjoy reviewing the part as much as I enjoy playing it!

Hat: Forever 21, also obsessed with this one, Blazer: J. Crew c/o Meghan Stevens, Shorts: Urban Outfitters (old) similar here, Shoes: Kate Spade, also available in a flat, Vest: Old, from Lucy Anne in Asheville, Purse: Chanel, Bow Tie: Belk c/o Meghan Stevens, but here's one and here's one, Earrings: My Grandmother's, here's a pair, Triple Strand Pearl Necklace: Luna (old), but here's one, Long Strand Pearl Necklace: J. Crew, but love this one, Rhinestone Flower Necklace: J. Crew, c/o Meghan Stevens, Pink bracelet-Bakelite, thanks to summerbird, Blue chain link braclet: ivy & leo, but LOVE this one, Rhinestone bracelet: Belonged to my Paternal Grandmother-in-law, Rhinestone Cuff: Henri Bendel, White Ring: BCBG (old), but here's my favorite new cocktail ring, Tiffany and Custom by Diamonds Direct.

I would like to thank Meghan Stevens, J. Crew Stylist Extraordinaire at South Park Mall, for the outfit inspiration.  I've said it before, but the girl has got an eye for creative fashion.  If you, like me, are a lover of all things J. Crew, give Meghan a call and receive 20% off your first appointment.  704-365-9355.

For the love of Stylin' the Ritz...

Happy top 'o the week to ya!  xx-Whitley

White Blazer and Cocktail Dress

Today I'm participating in Marion's Trend of the Month link-up.

So much fun.  The topic: Colorful Blazers.  I do not own a colorful blazer, and since rushing out to purchase one for the sake of a blog post is not in my budget, nor of my mindset, I hope Marion will not disqualify me for using the best that I have.  The white number you see here is the jacket of an old Banana Republic skirt suit I purchased for Precious Peanut #1's Baptism.  Let us all be dressed in white!  At any rate, if you haven't visited Marion's blog, Marionberry Style, please do.  She is really the cutest most beautiful thing.  I told her she likens Eva Mendes meets Hillary Swank.  Not a bad combo, right? Not to mention, I think she's got the best legs on the Blogoshere.  Marion, if you're reading this, I hope I'm not embarrassing you!  This just seems like the most befitting intro for my post.  So, here goes.  I hope everyone approves!

Dress: old, Blazer: Banana Republic- Old, here's one, Shoes: Nine West, Gold Belt: Raina Belts from KK Bloom, Yellow Belt: Forever 21- similar here, Sash: My Grandmother's, Bag: Chanel from Neiman Marcus, similar here, Sunglasses: Blinde, here's a similar pair, Earrings: Old from JT Posh, Bracelet: Henri Bendel, Rings: Melinda Maria, Tiffany, Custom by Diamonds Direct.

I got this dress back in my hometown of Asheville, NC at Lucy Anne, for some sort of semi-formal event.  Maybe a Deb party.  It's been so long.

I got no shame in showing you this.  Oh geez, this is so awful.

But then, looking at the fullness of my cheeks makes me think this was college.  You know, that whole drinking too much beer es no bueno for the figure.  Kip??  At any rate, I've always had a thing for cocktail dresses, even if I didn't have an occasion.  Turns out, 15ish years later, I do!

Let this not be the last image in your head before bed!

Also linking up for my first ever ...

For the love of holding onto things you love and blazer fun...

Thank you so much for reading!!  Whitley

Vintage Keyhole Gown and Turban

Last week I attended my first Charlotte Magazine BOB Awards event. It was held at the NC Music Factory, where most wonderful man in the world and I recently ventured for dinner and these photos. Admittedly, I did spend a little bit of time in debate over what to wear. I had it narrowed down to three choices and ultimately went with this.

The dress is one of my favorites. It is a vintage Lillie Rubin that belonged to my Mom. She got it in Greenville, South Carolina about 40 years ago to wear to a party.  She carried it along through her many moves over the years, because she thought it was so lovely.  I am so glad she did!

Once the turban occurred to me, my decision was made. This is a fun and funky way to dress down an otherwise formal dress. I threw the formality back in the ensemble by wearing my wedding shoes. Ironically enough, precious pea #1 exclaimed as he saw me dressed, "Mommy, is that your wedding dress?!" Pitter Patter Heart Beat.

Dress: Vintage Lillie Rubin, here's one and here, this available in cream, or here's one for all you readers with deeper pockets. Scarf: H&M, here's a similar one. Shoes: Stuart Weitzman (old), but here is pair at a nice price, Purse: JJ Winters, mine is from Lipp Boutique, Earrings: old, here's a pair by my new fav jewelry designer, Statement Bracelet: Henri Bendel, but here's one, Others: Stella & Dot Renegade Cluster and Nugget Wrap Bracelets, Ring: Tiffany Interlocking Circles For the love of vintage style and great fun, Whitley

ASOS, Fabulous ASOS

Happy Sunday Everyone! I thought it would be fun to share with you today one of my favorite sites for locating unique and fabulous frocks. While on my quest for one of a kind statement making pieces, ASOS delivers every time.  With over 850 labels from which to choose, ASOS provides more than your daily fashion fix. Here are a few of my current favorites. If you haven't shopped ASOS, check them out now. You won't be sorry, and their SALE section is always chocked full of goodies I have a hard time believing ever made it to the sale rack.

Orange You Maxine?

I recently learned that the Queen City Style won this year's Charlotte Magazine Voters' Choice Award for Best Blog. I'm still not really quite sure how this happened, but I am super excited, stoked, grateful and on and on some more.

I also feel like the pressure is really on now. If you voted for the Queen City Style, thank you SO much! If you are reading this right now, thank you!! I can't tell you how much I appreciate you being here. I am looking forward to my first BOB Awards party this Thursday night.

If you are in the Queen City, you should come! Here's how to get your tickets.

To celebrate, most wonderful man in the world and I ventured up to the NC Music Factory for some good eats at Bask on Seaboard.

Chances are if you enjoy good live music, you've ventured to the NC Music Factory, but if by chance you have not, you really must. The location serves home to a vast assortment of excellent restaurants, hip new bars-whether it's brew ha ha or cocktails you're thirsting- and the Queen City's hottest spot for listening to live music.

Hangin' with my new friends, Brody & Choch, and crew. If old school hip hop with a smooth twist is your thing, have a listen.

Inside Bask on Seaboard.

Dress: BCBGeneration (old). I am absolutely DYING to have this one, so if you get it, may I pretty please borrow?! Two more Maxi's I'm loving: here and here, Elvis Belt: My Grandmothers Blazer: Banana Republic (old), here's one, Sunglasses: Borne Natural Born Thrillers from Doctor's Vision Center, here is a similar pair at a lower price, Scarf: H&M, here's one, Bag: JJ Winters, mine is from Lipp Boutique in the Queen City, Bracelets: My Grandmothers, J.
