My Living Room + Dining Room

Saying I am excited about my living room progress would be an understatement.  We've lived in our little traditional 3/2 ranch for about 7 1/2 years now.  I've been working on the living room since I was pregnant with Worth. So about half of the time we've lived with an empty front of the house, and over the last 3+ years, I've slowly been chipping away at it as I've had the discretionary funds to do so.  The way it is in our house, my husband loves his boat, I love to decorate.  I am a project fiend like a moth to a flame.  I am lucky because I come up with all these creations in my mind, and so far there's not a one my husband hasn't been able to execute.  We turned a pair of vases into the orange honeycomb patterned lamps, the stools and dining room chairs we recovered, and the bar we renovated head to toe from it's past life as a hutch.

I love the way the living room and dining room are coming together.  There is nothing terribly unique about the layout of our house, but one of my favorite design qualities is the sunken living room.  I love the barn doors from the den leading to the back deck, and I love our renovated basement, but I really dig the sunken living room.  I think it suits the whole mid-century modern meets art deco + Slim Aarons/Palms Springs/Trina Turk Home/American Hustle character/this girl on Yves Saint Laurent's couch in Paris wannabe life I live inside my imagination.

There are a few more things I'd love to do... change the blinds.  Probably to matchstick or something similarly economical.  I'm contemplating switching out this rug for the living room. What do you think I should do for a rug in the dining room?  Also, do you think I should put something on either side of the sideboard in the dining room?  It is very symmetrical as is, so while I love the idea of a pair of fiddle leaf figs flanking either side, I think that is just too much harmony for me.  Oddly enough, this is the only room in our house without the nice dental tooth molding... just in case you were thinking we need trim.  We do.  What else?  Please tell me your design ideas!

One thing missing at the time these photos were taken is absolutely my favorite thing about the room; the above Wrightsville Beach ocean scene my Mom painted for me for my birthday.  She is so talented, and I am so proud of her.  Please let me know if you are interested in your own commission from Beth Lee Art.

Thanks so much to Donna for the amazing photos.  I don't think the saturated colors and palette of textures could have been translated anymore honestly than they are here, in the event you are looking for someone to photograph your work or special space.  I look forward to sharing an up close on some of the vignettes and accessories with you soon!

Have a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend!
