As mentioned previously, I knew I wanted to create a fun Valentine's Day post, part of which entailed finding the perfect red dress.  I hopped on over to Belk Southpark to take a stroll through their expansive occasions section, and I found two to which I could not say no, this being the second.  Petit Philippe wine and chocolate room served as our location. I had my hair cut just prior to this shoot. (The shortest it's been in 15 years!)  What do you think?  While my girl, Aurora, was doing her thing to my hair, Perri gave me fantastic face.  Needless to say, I felt pretty darn special getting all gussied up. Stylistically, this is one of my favorite shoots to date.  I hope you like! PS-Several of you ladies have inquired about my charming date for this shoot.  Handsome Nick is engaged to be married to an equally beautiful gal.  Ladies, let's wish them all the best!  On that note, need a photographer for your engagement photos? Donna is the one and only!!

Thanks so much for being here!

Grocery Date At Reid's Fine Foods

Whitley: Dress: Vintage Mr. Blackwell, My Grandmother's, here's one. Mink Stole: My Great-Grandmother's, here are several. Shoes: J. Crew (old). Sunglasses: Blinde, similar pair. Purse: old. Earrings: My Grandmother's. Pin: Gifted. Hair Comb: JewelMint. Bracelet: My Grandmother-in-law's. Rings: Diamonds Direct

Jason: Suit: Zegna. All other clothing: Ralph Lauren. Slippers: Sulka. Watch: NYC Flea Market find.

Visit Jason at Ralph Lauren Southpark Mall.

I had so much fun shooting with Jason and Donna atReid's Fine Foods, Charlotte's original hometown specialty food store.  You all know how much know my pension for all things refined and vintage, and this love affair does not only pertain to clothes. Founded in 1928, Reid's is a living, eating, drinking, celebrated long-standing member of the Charlotte community.  Reid's is known for their award winning butcher and wine shops, as well as a destination for on-site cooking and tasting programs. Reid's is friendly service wrapped in southern style; a modern day nod to a time when things were a little slower, more simple, always classic and never lacking for style. Reid's ambiance is transformed by one of my favorite designers, Charlotte's own Barrie Benson, by representation of her swank signature style throughout the atmosphere. Head to Reid's for all your shopping needs, your next wine tasting, date night or girls night out.  You will not want to return from such a delightful step back in time.

Thanks for being here with me, Whitley

Shoot The Duck

Sequin Top: Circa college dance team days. T-shirt: thanks to Charlotte Roller Girls. Jacket: summerbird. Pants: from Lipp Boutique, love these. Clutch: ASOS. Belt: Forever 21. Bangles: My Grandmother's and Bakelite thanks to summerbird. Lace glove and hair bow: Morris Costumes. Earrings: thanks to jami. Hooter's sunnies: thanks to hot cool chick I met in Playa del Carmen. Rings: Tiffany, Melinda Maria. Skates, elbow pads and knee pads: c/o Total Lizaster.

I think this might be my most fun post to date.  Any opportunity to channel my inner Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, Belinda Carlisle or other inner 80's goddess is an opportune time for me.  When Charlotte Roller Girls Tweeted me a very friendly how do you do, I knew I had to collaborate with them.  Charlotte Roller Girls is an all-female track roller derby league putting their best foot forward on the rink and in the community with a portion of bout proceeds going to charity.  Want to watch the Charlotte Roller Girls take action?  Check out their schedule here. Bouts are filled with activities for children of all ages, and be sure to arrive early for tailgating like you've never seen.  So, just tell me I'm the only one who loved shooting the duck and drinking suicides until purple in a carbonated swelled face.  To all of you male readers... waiting for that slow dance... Forever yours, Faithfully.

I knew I wanted to create a fun Valentine's Day post, but it wasn't until Donna put the bug in my ear for having gorgeous flowers on set that I had to have it all... the perfect location, the most amazing red dress I could find (I found two!), and of course, a handsome 'date' for this romantic evening.  Petit Philippe wine and chocolate room immediately came to mind when searching for the location.  It also makes a fantastic spot for my girls book club who meets to talk about great wine. You can't tell in these images, but I have chopped my locks seriously. Excited for a change, and I hope you will like!  While my girl, Aurora, was doing her thing to my hair, Perri gave me fantastic face.  A photo shoot, yes, but all of the aforementioned combined ingredients make for a fantastically delicious day of love.

Lots of love to you!!

Belk: Modern. Southern. Style.

I am a lifelong customer of Belk department stores, and chances are, if you were born and raised in the south east, you are too.  I remember entering the Asheville mall, always, through the Belk department store.  Conveniently enough, the doors opened to the children's and teen section, and my little girl Saturday excitement began at that moment.  Is it ironic that I always only enter Southpark Mall through Belk if I can help it?  It's not that I don't love the other stores, but there is just something about feeling home.  Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago, and can you imagine my excitement when I was invited to the most recent Belk Fashion Preview as presented by VP of Merchandising and Fashion Direction, Arlene Goldstein?

I wore my most coveted suit which belonged to my Great-Grandmother, paired with the purse my Great-Great Grandmother needle pointed and my favorite Cole Haan pumps from Brazil (here).

Belk offers many of my favorite everyday lines, as well as several of the more artistic, fashion-forward brands I go to for individual statement making pieces.  Quite possibly the most exciting thing I took away from the presentation is that Belk will be carrying Cynthia Rowley by the end of March, and certainly in time for Girls Night Out at the Southpark store on Thursday, April 4th. Ms. Rowley, herself, is slated to attend.  I am hoping for a hand shake-hug, which is my professional greeting combined with the real me greeting.  The below dress and shirt are a couple of my oldest but most favorite Cynthia Rowley garments.

Most of you know that the majority of my fashion inspiration comes from my Grandmother and Great-Grandmother who were department store fashion buyers. I'll be back later to share some of my favorite pieces from Belk's spring offering, but for now, I just had to tell you about my fun meet and greet with Arlene at Belk.  It was just one more indication, for me, that the Queen City Style and where it is leading is the path for me.  Thank you for walking it with me.  Hope to see you on the 4th at Belk Southpark!

With gratitude, Whitley

Green Jeans Consignment Winner + Freaking Awesome

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!  I am sure many of you are enjoying a day off from work in recognition of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.  If you are not one of those, not to worry, you are not alone.  Both of my boys are out of school for the next three days, so I may not be getting much work completed.  I am, however, looking forward to taking the boys uptown via light rail for a child-friendly educational celebration.

For those of you who entered the Green Jeans Consignment Too Busy To Tag Giveaway, click HERE to see if you are the winner!  If you would still like to consign, there is plenty of time! Perhaps you would prefer to shop all the awesome designer duds at ridiculously low prices.  All of that information is below, or visit their website HERE.

Do you recognize these photos?  I could not believe it when the event organizers contacted me to ask if they may use images of the Queen City Style for their postcards!  I am very flattered.  The event is amazing, and the organizers are just awesome, real people.  You should definitely check it out if you are in the Queen City!!

Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a great day!

Blouse: ASOS. Shorts: Piperlime and here. Turtleneck: CAbi. Boots and Tights: J. Crew. Purse: Chanel. Sunglasses: Blinde, similar pair. Hair Comb: JewelMint. Earrings: from J.T. Posh. Bracelets: Belonged to my Great-Grandmother, Grand-mother, Grand-mother in law, Stella & Dot. Rings: Belonged to my Grandmother here's my other favorite, Tiffany, Diamonds Direct.

When I spotted this shirt on my favorite on-line shopping site, ASOS, I was kind of drooling. Then my super-stylish pal, Jenny, (seriously check her out) insisted the shirt was made for me.  So, done and done.  That's when you buy it.  If you love it, and you can afford to pay for it in cash, you get it.  I could go on for days about the shirt, but I won't.  Instead, if you like it yourself, it's on SALE now.  If you're in the Queen City, check out Smelly Cat Coffeehouse in NoDa, Charlotte's Historic Arts District.  The neighborhood is Charlotte's closest answer to my hometown of Asheville, NC.  Arts, culture, good eats, music, creatures of all kinds and more! Oh, how about the fact that Donna has photographed Mother Teresa?!  Yes, Mother Teresa and me.  Unbelievable.

Love, Peace and Hair Grease, xx-Whitley

Celebrate In Vintage

Dress: Vintage, from hong kong vintage. Boots: Corral Boots from Mexico. Clutch: ASOS, last seen here. Necklace: My Grandmother-in-law's. Earrings: Gifted. Rings: My Grandmother's, Tiffany, custom by Diamonds Direct.

I recently had the pleasure of celebrating my friend Sonya Barnes at the 10 year anniversary party for her image consulting firm, Harris & Barnes.  This vintage frock from hong kong vintage has been stowed away in my closet since I purchased it almost a year ago.  I always imagined wearing it to a Cinco de Mayo party or some similar festivity, but it jumped right out at me on this particular evening.  Perhaps not the most logical pairing (some things remain), the boots made a leap for me too.  And the clutch.  I like it when my clothes jump out at me, and I don't have to jump at them or jump up and down, because I am frustrated with them.  How about you?  Do you agree?  Do certain things in your wardrobe jump out at you?  More here from hong kong vintage.

Thanks so much for being here!

My very best, Whitley

True Love at Hong Kong Vintage

Dress: My Grandmother's. Boots: J. Crew (old), here's a pair on sale. Purse: Chanel. Sunglasses: Blinde, similar pair. Headband: ZoeLynn & Co. (last seen here with flower). Earrings: old, similar pair. Necklace: Jewelmint. Bracelet: My Great-Grandmother's. Rings: Melinda Maria, Tiffany, custom at Diamond Direct.

If you've been here just a few weeks you likely know my passion for refined vintage garb.  If you live in the Queen City and you share an appreciation for rare and cultivated threads, you owe it to yourself to pay a visit to hong kong vintage on Central Avenue.  Of course, if you also possess the obsessed eye for such aesthetically resplendent threads, you may already know for yourself about the greatness at hong kong vintage.  This store provides the quintessential experience equivalent to that of a kid in a candy store, the getting is so sweet.  When deciding where Donna and I would shoot one of my favorite dresses which belonged to my Grandmother, hong kong vintage just made perfect sense.  Go get some sugar for yourself.

Thanks for being a sweetie and visiting!

xx-Whitley

PS-Did you notice in the top photo the Tartan Plaid Pendleton that is the dress to my jacket here??!

All You Need Is Love

Shirt: ASOS (on SALE). Long sleeved shirt: Gap, best long sleeve T ever! Jeans: Zara, similar pair. Boots: Charlie 1 Horse, mine are from Constance Consignment. Jacket: Forever 21, also love this one. Purse: Chanel. Belt: old, here's one. Sunglasses: Blinde, similar pair. Earrings: Made my a friend. Rings: Melinda Maria, Tiffany, custom by Diamonds Direct

At some point I'll have to write a post about my favorite neighborhood spots in the Queen City.  I have my short list, from which I rarely stray, but there's only one Thomas Street Tavern. Back in the day this might as well have been my home away from home.  Totally a fraternity groupie.  If you've been there, you know the cool factor.  Now that I'm a little more settled down and all grown up (right), I don't make it over there as often, but walking through those doors felt like yesterday. If you take a stool at the bar, don't be surprised to be sitting between a truck driver and an investment banker; an actress to your left and a pool shark to your right. Thomas Street Tavern is salt of the earth cool, unpretentious and friendly; the perfect location to don my favorite new T-shirt that makes me insta-happy just wearing it.  All You Need Is Love.

Love ya! xo-Whitley

A Christmas Ball!

Skirt: My Grandmother's. Turtleneck: CAbi (old), similar one. Jacket: My Great-Grandmother's. Purse: Chanel, here's one. Boots: J. Crew (old). Sunglasses: Blinde, similar pair. Earrings: from J.T. Posh. Bracelets: My Great-Grandmother's, Grandmother-in-law's, Grandmother's, Stella & Dot. Rings: Tiffany, Diamonds Direct.

I'm not exactly sure where my Grandmother got this skirt, but I know it came from some far off country during her world travels with my Grandfather.  Some of the coolest things she owns she purchased during her travels, and I was always so fascinated by the garments.  You could just tell they were made different from all the rest.  This skirt is no exception.  It has always been one of my favorite inheritance pieces from her; definitely a top pick for my holiday go-to attire. Do you have any favorite holiday pieces?

I hope you and yours have the happiest of holidays and a very Merry Christmas!

Let there be love, let there be light!

Shorts + Arooji's Wine Room

Shirt: Anthropologie (old). Shorts: Piperlime and here's another pair. Turtleneck: CAbi, here's one. Boots: J. Crew. (old) here's a pair. Jacket: Gap.  Purse: Coach. Belt: Target. Tights: J. Crew. Sunglasses: Blinde, similar pair. Bee Earrings: Jewelmint. Other Earrings: made by a friend.  Bracelets: My Great-Grandmother's, Grandmother's, Grandmother-in-law's, Stella & Dot. Rings: Melinda Maria, Tiffany, custom at Diamonds Direct.

Donna and I had so much fun shooting over at Arooji's Wine Room.  If you live in the Queen City, head on over to the Shops at Morrison and cozy up to a glass for yourself... Great food, tasty vino, delightful environment and friendly conversation.  Here I go again with this is one of my favorite outfits, but really it is.  I think it totally speaks to my more common "boho" style by day, and it's so much fun to pair shorts, tights and boots!  Do you agree?

We are all still grieving the heartbreak in Connecticut.  We have to treat one another with love and kindness. I am praying for those families affected, as I know we all are.  Thank you so much for taking time to be here with me.

I hope you are having a loving week!

Queen City Sister of the Sea

Blouse: Blacksheep, c/o Lipp Boutique, similar. Waxed Jeans: JUSTUSA, also here's a pair. c/o Lipp Boutique. Belt: Ada, c/o Lipp Boutique, also here's one. Scarf: Gifted. Shoes: Cole Haan, now on major sale! Sunglasses: Blinde, but here's a less expensive pair. Wallet: Coach. Necklaces: Green c/o Lipp Boutique, Gold Chain: my own. Earrings: from Nordstrom. Bracelets: White House/Black Market (old). Rings: Melinda Maria, Tiffany, Diamonds Direct.

The ladies of Lipp Boutique generously asked me to participate in a fundraiser they recently hosted.  They loaned me this outfit to wear to the event; a lovely evening of shopping, sipping and styling, in which a portion of the proceeds from sales were donated to the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte.  Waxed denim is a hot item right now.  I had fun styling this super comfy green pair with a simple but sophisticated cream blouse and this fun and functional wrap leather belt.  I piled the jewels on high for added texture, then topped the outfit off with a patterned silk scarf, hoop earrings and my favorite sunglasses.  I look at this and feel like I would fit right in with the pirates of the sea, so I guess that's me... the Queen City Sister of the Sea!

Thanks for reading, and happy, happy weekend to you mate!
