Southern Wedding Shower

Dear Friends,

I am very excited to be hosting a virtual wedding shower today for my beautiful, super stylish, sweet friend, Ivana.

When Ivana and I decided to host a blog swap with one other, we immediately got to thinking about what this would look like. Ivana reminded me of her wedding date, exactly one year from today!

I've been keeping an eye on Ivana's fun fashion sense, from all the way over in Austria might I add, ever since I started writing the Queen City Style. A contentious risk taker with her own style, trends and fashion, Ivana's got a flair for all things fun, fabulous and French. She has fond memories of a strong bond with her stylish Grandmother, reminding me of my relationship with my own.

Not to mention, that pretty face. Precious Peanut #1 star gazingly pointed out the obvious one day: "Mommy, is that pretty lady your friend?"

Ivana loves the finer things in life as much as the rest of us. Her blog, Macarons and Pearls, is the perfect channel for vicariously living such a fine life, unless of course, you already do.

And in that case, cheers to you! As you can see, like the rest of us girls, Ivana loves an opportunity to be creative and play dress up, so today I am giving her that by way of throwing her a Southern Wedding Shower. I thought this would be a fun way to share with her a little about our culture and traditionally conservative and classy way of doing things, for which we Southerners are all so proud. So cheers to you, Ivana!  I hope you enjoy your special day today!

Let's start with the location.

Since Ivana's shower is being held right here in the Queen City, I immediately turned to the The Duke Mansion. I've attended a number of events at this gorgeous home, now operating as a Southern Bed and Breakfast, and I've never been less than enamored with the home and ground's interior and exterior beauty. I know Ivana and the closest ladies in her life will enjoy their stay here. I thought it might be nice for Ivana's guests to enter the Mansion,

and as they pass through the foyer...

...delight themselves with either one of these tasty treats. A peach green iced tea with mint,

or if you are feeling extra festive in celebration of Ivana's upcoming nuptials, perhaps treat yourself to something a little more bold; a Mint Julep garnished with fresh mint, served from a Julep cup.

The gardens at The Duke Mansion are a lovely place for conversation and good tidings.

It's starting to get warm in the South, so we'll make sure the gardens are flanked with lots of Sago Palms and Ferns to help us feel a little more breezy in the heat.

What shall we serve?  Nothing to heavy.  We will dine on a light lunch. How about a few passed hors d' oeuvres, consisting of finger sandwiches? Cucumber Tea Sandwiches, of course.

Naturally, Deviled Eggs.

Without question, little ham biscuits.

Making our way back inside, we'll take our seats at tables draped with white tables cloths and delicate doilies placed at each setting.

I'd find a way to work them into this table, which cheerfully displays all of the traditional elements of a Southern table, with a modern twist thanks to the chevron napkins an colored candlesticks.

The table will, of course, be accessorized with pink peonies and white hydrangea galore.

We'll serve a delicate lunch consisting of avocado and grapefruit salad, supplemented with fresh lump crab meat.  No filler.

Passed garlic cheese biscuits.  Hhhmmm Hmmm.

If you've saved room for desert, I was thinking Bananas Foster prepared table side.

At least that is what I was planning on, until saw this. Bananas Foster Belgium Waffles.

Ivana, I know about you and your little sweet tooth.  Eat your heart out!

But I must warn you, this might be you...

We must shower you will gifts, my dear. I can think of nothing more southern or luxurious than monogrammed linens from Leontine Linens.

You'll need this as you exchange vows with your lucky lad, Philippe.

As parting gifts, I hope your guests will enjoy Quartz Votive Holders and Worcester Jar matches, both by Design Darling. Store owner and Blogger, Mackenzie, offers just the cutest things!

Since Ivana has a thing for pastels, I thought I would wear this ensemble I recently styled.  Ironically enough, the photos were taken just doors down from The Duke Mansion. How do I look, Ivana? The floppy brimmed straw hat, a warm weather staple for any Southern Lady, is good for keeping cool on sunny days.

You certainly don't need me to tell you this, Ivana, but...

You already are, my dear, and I'm having so much fun watching your stylish self do it.

I hope you have had a lovely day! I look forward to following along with more preparations leading up to your big day!!

For the love of celebrating with friends, in the very best of style-- Whitley

The Gift That Keeps On Giving

Yesterday you met the lovely, sweet and dear Ms. Raquel. Hop on over here, in case you missed it. As a result of Raquel reaching her $1,000 goal in order to send 30 children to camp for 10 weeks this summer, through the Dowd YMCA's Community Support Campaign, Raquel promised to wear a dress for the first time since the 5th grade.

Can you believe it?  She's a natural if you ask me!

Now of course, every smart ensemble begins with a budget, and since we are not likely to see Ms. Raquel in a dress everyday, we set ours at $50. This may sound feasible, and certainly it is, but this would NOT be easy. Enter our lovely friends over at Lipp Boutique.

You know. The place I snagged this fabulous JJ Winters clutch. Here's a similar one for you if you don't find it there.

As I said, I knew an entire ensemble under $50 would be a challenge, so I called up the ladies at Lipp Boutique to see if they would like to participate in the giving.  I couldn't finish my ask before the owner excitedly and graciously jumped at the opportunity. How amazing and awesome!! Do you remember this dress from In Style Magazine I previously shared?

Well, I recently saw one very similar on the Sale rack at Lipp Boutique and thought the bold, bright colors would be a nice complement to Raquel's beautiful, dark olive complexion.

Raquel and her fun sister, Debbie, met me at the boutique to get to work!

We grabbed a few options.

I know you see that dress in the background.

And what do you know, but it was Raquel's favorite! We tried the dress on with a bevvy of accessories--belts, earrings, necklaces, rings, etc.  We ultimately went with a blue banded belt and triangle necklace, keeping in step with the dress's color block theme.

Lipp Boutique so graciously gifted us the dress and belt!

We ventured over to Target, where Raquel immediately reached for this tan blazer.  At $29.99, her pick is smart and multi-functional. The metallic shoes were a steal On Sale for $14.99, another smart buy, since this color will work with virtually anything.

We threw in my Grandmother's sash, (of course), a pair of gold circle earrings from Morrison Smith Jewelers, a blue chain link bracelet from ivy & leo, and a gold dome shaped ring loaned to us by Lipp Boutique.

Raquel was already styling hip green fingernails to suit!

You know we had to pay homage and bust out a little YYYYMCA!

Precious Pea number two was so excited to be in on the action! He's seen most wonderful man in the world (AKA Daddy) take a gazillion pictures of his Mama, so he was thrilled to provide a little guidance at our photo shoot.

Raquel, I had SO much fun stylin' with you!!

And you know Hanky loves ya!

You look ravishing, my dear!

This was such a wonderful, fun opportunity to give back. I am very grateful for my membership at the YMCA. I couldn't have imagined a better opportunity for the Queen City Style's first venture in philanthropy. Many thanks to all the friends who donated money, to Raquel for being so fun and easy going during her brave time, to all my YMCA friends and to Lipp Boutique for being so generous. Y'all ROCK!

While the Dowd YMCA has reached their goal of sending 30+ children to camp this summer, there is always a capacity to do more for others. Click HERE if you would like to donate or more learn more about the YMCA of Greater Charlotte or locate a YMCA in your area.

For the love of giving back, always in great style... Whitley

Giving Back

With the exception of perhaps my inaugural post, I am most proud of the one I am sharing with you today. Through their community support campaign, I recently joined forces with the Dowd YMCA, in a most fun and stylish way might I add, to send a few children to camp this summer.

How so, you say?  Meet the lovely, sweet and dear Ms. Raquel. (Yep, that's Precious Pea number two there she's holding).

The Dowd YMCA set a goal to raise $30,000 in order to send 30 children to camp for 10 weeks.  Each child watch staff member was challenged to raise $1,000, and in doing so, they were encouraged to involve families of the child watch program. Ms. Raquel asked my family to help, and with the help of other friends and families, we collected $200 in order to send two children to camp! SOOO AWESOME!!

Thank you, again, to our wonderful friends who participated!

BUT WAIT!

The fun doesn't stop here. In reaching their goals, each child watch staff member had to pay up. In Mrs. Raquel's case, payment came in the form of a dress. You see, Raquel has not worn a dress since the 5th grade! One day towards the end of the fundraising period, I was informed of just how close Raquel was to reaching her goal. So, I offered Raquel a deal; one she was reluctant to accept...If I donate the remainder of your balance, I get to style your fabulous self on the Queen City Style, WEARING A DRESS, for all the world to see! After several moment's thought, Raquel excitedly agreed. She knew what this would mean for the children of the community. And so, I PROUDLY bring to you... wearing a dress...

The lovely, sweet and dear Ms. Raquel!

TA-DA!!!!!!!!!

I mean, how ADORABLE and FABULOUS is she?! And all those children going to camp this summer? Could there BE anything be more fun and stylish?! Why, yes.  There could be, and there is, but you'll have to come back tomorrow to see! I am so proud, happy and excited to share this with you, so please promise me you will! :)

For the love of Giving Back, in the very best of style...

See you tomorrow!  Whitley

Stylistic Artistic

Hello my most stylish friends! Recently, I received my weekly email from the Queen City's very own Charlotte Tidbits about one stylistic artistic gal by the name of Stephanie Jimenez. The two teamed up to offer a fabulous discount on the purchase of one of Stephanie's one of a kind fashion drawings.

One of a kind, I say, because the drawing is of YOU. A fashion drawing of Moi? With the Queen City Style being my post family eat, sleep and breathe at the present, I could not pass up this exciting offer! After contacting Stephanie via email, she and I perused a few images to consider for her drawing.  We ultimately went with one of my favorites.  Click HERE to see the post for this ensemble.

This is what Stephanie sent back to me. I was so excited and beyond impressed with her artistic interpretation.

Stephanie used a variety of photos to articulate the final outcome. The below image shows the front of the dress.

This photo assisted with Stephanie's creation of the pose for her drawing.

Another image of the dress.

 The shoes.

And accessories.

And Voila'!

 How amazing is Stephanie?

And since fashion is her passion, Stephanie is sharing some more of her love on the Queen City Style. In addition to her one of a kind creations, Stephanie sells other renderings through her Etsy shop HERE. A couple of my favorites include this Spring 2012 Balenciaga rendering,

as well as these adorable fashion illustration greeting cards. I think I NEED these, don't you?

Head on over to Stephanie's Etsy shop, enter promo code QUEENCITYSTYLE, and get 25% off your total purchase! Stephanie, you totally got it goin' on, girl.

Come Hither Hair

I recently posted some pics from my birthday night out with the girls. BLo ouT sure did make me feel special. I tell you what.  A walking advertisement, I was. I ran a few errands before painting the town. I must have been stopped at least 20 times.  About the hair.

So, today I'm here to show and tell you all about it.

I originally planned on just a BLo ouT, However, after a quick consultation with stylist Amanda which included an inquiry about a fun, messy "Boho Glam" braid, as it turns out, my wish was her command. And boy did she perform. So talented AND accommodating, those BLo ouTers.

I showed up unprepared... No images in hand to share of my sought after style. But a few iPhone shared images later, any expectations I had were blown out of the water. First came a wash and style. A wash is not typically included with an up do, but since I arrived a hot mess, I asked for this extra little bit of love.

Let's say I opted out of the up do and stopped at a BLo ouT. Va Va Va Voom! Why can't I do this at home?!  I'm sure it is possible. I know it is. It's just not in my cards. It seems nothing past an elastic hair tie is these days. As I was saying... thank goodness for...

For optimal hold, Amanda rolled my hair with a curling iron. A touch of Goldilocks? Juuuust right!

Time for the first side braid. A river of hair!

Then, the other side.

Pulling it all together in the back, just as I described to Amanda.

Maybe not a pony tail, but let's gather it all in a messy loose bun.

Oh my gosh. Perfection! Are you kidding me? I want this everyday of my life.

]

]

How stinking cute is BLo ouT stylist Amanda? I really could not have asked for anything more to my liking loving!

Now after the girls night out, the neeext night most wonderful man in the world and I headed Uptown for some double date action with two of our closest pals. I got to showcase my fabulous hair ALL weekend long.

Day 2 - I headed back to BLo ouT for a touch up and slight modification. This time, the moi tres chic stylist Charlie pulled out some serious fabulous hair stops. Readjusting only the bun, this time a fishtail was put into place.

Charlie, you are a brilliant!

SO...

Got a hot date with a new beau and want to look your best? Or perhaps, got a hot date with your most wonderful man in the world and want to feel like it's your very first night together? A night out with the girls? Whatever your case may be, I can't tell you how good about myself I felt with this hair. Sex. Martini. Therapy. Chocolate. BLo ouT. Yes.

I look forward to showing you more from my fun night out on the Queen City.

Here's the skinny. BLo ouT's start at $35. Up do's cost a bit more, based on complexity. For about $10, go back the next day if you wish, for a variation. On Sunday, wear your 'do to church, then slap on a headband for the cutest afternoon jog ever. A weekend of feel good. What could be more stylish?

To get yours, click HERE.

Tell the ladies at BLo ouT the Queen City Style sent you and get 10% off your 'do.

For the love of nothing more stylish than feeling good.  xo-Whitley

Can I get a RIGHT ON!?

Last night I ventured uptown with most wonderful man in the world, my mom, step father, friends and cousins to the Wells Fargo Plaza for the season opener of Alive After Five. Our wedding band, Right On, the best party band IN THE WORLD, was playing. The fun seemed to start and finish in the blink of an eye. Right On band promises to take a break only if you ask them to.

How fun is that? If you live in the Queen City and you missed it, they are playing again this coming Friday at Piedmont Town Center.

The ever fabulous Nigel Holland.

A shot of me and Nigel from my and most wonderful man in the world's wedding night five and a half years ago. My poor dress. The lace on the hem was/is in shreds. I had my mother's wedding dress remade, so the way I see it, we have gotten a fair return on investment.

Oh what a night.

For last night's ensemble, I paired a handful of birthday items to style the complete look.

I just met this dapper gentleman. I was totally loving his ensemble and thought ours combined would make for a good photo opp. Those shades, the sunnies and kicks, and the pop of red on his wrist...

Tres chic!

Pants: from Anthropologie, Top: from ivy & leo, Shoes: Maria Sharavopa by Cole Haan; mine are from Step by Sloan, Necklace: from J.T. Posh, Bracelet: my own, Rings: Custom and Tiffany Interlocking Circles Ring; Earrings: from World Market.

For the love of stylin' in fun, fun, fun...

Bon Weekend! xo-Whitley

Oh, What to Wear!

What to wear is always of utmost importance, but right now I have a problem. A very big problem. So big that it keeps me up at night. All you fabulous readers know I would give my right arm for this to be me.

I can't fall asleep. I wake up in the middle of the night. I wake up too early in the morning. My problem is there are too many fun, stylish fabulous things about which to write-- they swirl in my head morning, noon and night, and they WON'T GO AWAY!

Behold!

There's always a positive floating around somewhere. And today I get to tell you about a whole buncha fun, stylish fabulous things and people all at the same time. Liora Manne' Home, located on Central Ave in the Queen City, is one of those for-the-home spots that has been on my mind for some time now.

Rugs, pillows, poufs, bags, even fabric.

I was first introduced to Liora Manne' when my friend, Katherine, gave me this fabulous Liora Manne' clutch for Christmas. You may recall my New Year's Eve sequin jumpsuit ensemble.

This Friday night Liora Manne' Home is hosting a Gallery Crawl party featuring lots of stylish coolness.

So, there's obviously Liora Manne' Home products to be had. Everyone knows my obsession with bright color. A candy store full of pillows!

Then, there's Liza Cox and her photographic works of art. As the featured artist for this event, on display will be photographic interpretations of some of the things most meaningful to Liza.

Also on tap will be jewelry designer Alexandra Speer showcasing some of her sleek and stunning adornments.

As well as a little live music to suit by Brad Pressley, with snacks courtesy of Bistro La Bon.

So, saddle up, strap on your party boots, and head on over to Central Ave. for some down right stylish art, accessories, jewels and more. Liora Manne' Home 1336 Central Ave. Friday, April 6th, 5pm until...

Pick up something for me while your at it, 'eh?

For the love of local style at its best...

Style on, and Happy Easter Egg!  xo Whitley

Real Girl, Fabulous Fashion

Happy Fashion Friday, my most stylish friends! I'm taking the week off from posing and passing the baton. For some time now I have been longing to visit summerbird, a high end consignment boutique located on East Blvd. in the Dilworth neighborhood of the Queen City. You may be more familiar with the name Monarch, which the store was previously called until the switch to summerbird, in order to avoid confusion with another local business.

I'll just go ahead and throw it in that if you mention this post, you will be given 20% off your purchase at summerbird. Wow.  Absolutely as fabulous as the store itself.

It's no secret I've been living under a rock for the last year, as I say, since giving birth to baby boy number two and taking a break from work. Of course, summerbird has been around for more than a year, so I guess I really have no excuse. It's no secret, my passion for vintage and rare fashion finds. So you can imagine my excitement when I finally came into the light and visited this glorious space absolutely filled to the brim with high end designer duds unique to the Queen City.

Isabel Marant

Reason number two for my school girl giddiness? The gorgeous gal you see below, Ashley Kirby. It is my intent to write about, as the bi-line of this blog states, all things stylish in the Queen City. Being the girl I refer to as the Most Stylish Mommy in the Queen City, Ashley embodies the bi-line. In addition to nice and beautiful, the girl's got wit. With the moniker Highchairs and High Heels, Ashley writes as a featured columnist for Modern Parent.

Check out her honest yet humorous advice on surviving parenthood.

Ashley is wearing Jeremy Laing here. Ashley and her son, Branner, recently joined me and my boys for a play date on the farm. Wearing black skinny jeans tucked into tall Wellington boots topped off with a cozy plaid button down and puffer vest, Ashley arrived appropriately and absolutely adorable. Oh, and let's not forget the accessories. With an always upbeat and sunny outlook on life, though cloudy and drizzly the day may be, only the chicest pair Ray-Ban's will do for this mom of substantial style.

Jeremy Laing

Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti

I'm not sure who was more excited, me or Ashley, about the opportunity to play dress up for an hour in what we both consider to be the world's tastiest and most colorful candy store. Would you look at this bodice layered with a rainbow of scarves? Most fabulous accessory of all time. Wear it in your hair, around your waist, around your neck, tie it onto a bag for extra flare. No piece is as multi-functional as the scarf.

Prada

Oscar de la Renta

Lanvin

Tops, Blouses, Jackets galore...

Jeans, Bags and Shoes for you!

Purse: Rebecca Minkoff

Orange bangle with charm: Karl Lagerfeld

Barbara Tfank

Nude wedges by Chloe

Black Pumps by Alexandra Neel

A new shipment of pristine Hermes scarves arrived just last week.

Oh me.

Oh my.

Now you know I couldn't just sit back and watch and not participate in all the dress up fun! Yes, I realize these sunglasses are too big for my tiny face, and they make me look like a bug, BUT I am freaking dying over this dress...

Dress: Matthew Williamson

Sunglasses: Tom Ford

Bracelets: Various (there's a whole bowl full of 'em!)

I think this dress is more well suited for Ashley with her long dark locks and tan complexion. Look at those ruffle sleeves and that electric color. Gorgeous.

I could scroll through these images all day long. The beautiful space and all of the color at summerbird is so refreshing. Oh, and the clothes?  Well, you know. If you don't, go see for yourself. summerbird.

The Artist Avett

If you are a lover of all things home grown, in this case music, and you are a person who considers themselves to be at least somewhat established in the Queen City, then it is more likely than not you've heard of the Concord based band, The Avett Brothers.  This trio consisting of brothers, Scott and Seth Avett, and honorary brother, Bob Crawford, has gained rapid national attention on the Americana music scene in recent years.

Growing up in Asheville and attending college in Chapel Hill, my formative years were spent surrounded by  musical talent of similar magnitude.  In my household, instead of television in the background, music (and the high pitched shrills of little people) plays throughout the house via built in ceiling speakers.  We love music.  I know the Avett Brothers, but I don't know enough about them to write confidently without some research.  Chances are, some of you reading this are just like me.  On the other hand, some of you reading may know way more than I do about the Avett Brothers, but did you know that brother Scott Avett is also a fine artist?

Today I had the privilege of viewing some of Scott's art work which is currently on display to benefit The Educational Center here in the Queen City. The display will continue tomorrow, Saturday, February 25, 10:00-4:00, for a one day public exhibition at Morrison Place in the South Park area. Included in the display is a series of six large portrait paintings.  Impressive in scale and creation, the paintings are nearly nine feet tall.

Some of the art work included has already sold, but as of my visit today, a few remained available for purchase.

For more information on the event, including directions, sponsors and a list of those involved in the creation of this event, visit HERE

For more on Scott Avett, visit his website HERE.

For the love of style, exploration and interpretation through art, I wish you a most joyful weekend- Whitley

Queen City Review - The Glass House at FABO

I recently had the pleasure of attending the Grand Opening for a new addition to the already ahead of trend Myers Park establishment, FABO.  Introducing The Glass House at FABO...

The Glass House at FABO

Have you been to FABO yet?  If not, you must go there.  Conceptually, and well, in reality, they don't come much cooler than this.  Just take a closer look at the name, FABO, an acronym for Fabulous Art Buying Opportunity.

FABO is a locally owned coffee shop and art gallery, offering works from over 50 local artists that span the categories of jewelry, paintings, pottery and more.  Talent abounds at FABO.  Here, a sampling of jewels and accessories on display...

The Glass House Grand Opening Party was Hoppin'!

Rolling out the red carpet, The Glass House highlighted the talents of some other groups local to the Queen City and North Carolina.  There were sweet treats from Polka Dot Bake Shop, delicious catered munchies by Plates Perfect Catering, and, of course, there was wine galore, with assistance provided by Fine Wine Trading Company, The Country Vintner and Must Distributing, LLC.

LunaZon Photography provided photography leading up to the main event.  Most Wonderful Man in the World accompanied me for this night of fun, which included a few hysterical moments inside the so fun ShutterBooth. K-Fed?  What's uuuup?

Here's a peak at the beer and wine list from the evening.  We're in a Zin kind of mood right now.  If you are too, the Klinker Brick Old Vine... How to describe?... Like my tongue was swimming in a sea of satin sheets.

Concocting all this fabulous magic at The Glass House is Katie Crawley, otherwise known as the Evil Mastermind, as so poignantly self-described.  Joining the partnership at FABO as a former wine distributor, Katie brings a vast knowledge of beer and wine to The Glass House.  Perhaps what most wonderful man in the world loved most was hearing that The Glass House's beer list takes equal consideration and is of equal caliber to the wine list.  FABulous Wine + FABulous Beer = Fun for All.

FABO and The Glass House are located on Selwyn Avenue in the heart of Myers Park.  This means lots of families and lots of kiddies.  FABO is Kid-Friendly (Wahooo!), especially before 6pm.  Another equation for you... A play date at FABO looks a little like this:  Cupcakes and juice for the kiddies + Vino, Cheese and Crackers for the Moms = MY kind of play date.  They even host Kids Art Parties.  So cool.

I encourage you, you and your spouse, you and your friend or you and the kiddies to check out this one of a kind, community-centric gathering spot.  FABO and The Glass House promise a warm and fuzzy, neighborhood-feeling, good time for all.  Click HERE for information regarding location, hours and more.

For the love of sipping, shopping and supporting your community, all in fabulous Style...

Cheers to FABO,  The Glass House and You!  -Whitley

Lilly Love

Happy Weekend, Stylish Friends!

This post contains A LOT of information relevant to Lilly Pulitzer... store info, personal favs, resources, images of old and new...and more... so if you are a Lilly Lover, sit back and pour over the details!

If not, as usual, I THANK YOU just as well for visiting!

Last night I had the fun pleasure of attending a special evening at the new Lilly Pulitzer store at South Park Mall.  It was a chance for a few close friends and family members to get their hands on some of the most incredibly adorable merchandise I have ever seen, and in my case, a chance for me to tell you about all of their cuteness, hot off the press!  Where to start??

Lilly Pulitzer Store Front at South Park Mall

As a lover of all things colorful, this Lilly Pulitzer store is like, for me.... going back to some of your fondest childhood memories...As a little girl I see....walking on a pebble path leading to the ocean, bare feet, dressed in a cotton yellow and white sundress (vintage Lilly print of course) trimmed with rick rack lace, the wisps of fragile strands of young blond hair delicately blowing in the wind, fresh air all around, with an ice cream cone in hand, the vanilla cream slowly melts down the side of the cone and onto my fingers as I take the first step onto sand, and I can see the sparkly crystals on the calm, clear blue sea just in front of me.  My eyes are closed as I see this moment I share with you, much like my first time coming to know Lilly Pulitzer.

Vintage Lilly via

The below is a picture of my Grandmother, with my Grandfather, wearing the garment that served as my first introduction to Lilly!  (Aren't they adorable?)

I am so fortunate she has joined all the other lovely vintage ladies in my wardrobe. I love wearing her during the warm summer months.

The vision of that little girl at the beach, all grown up.  Smile.

My night at the Lilly Pulitzer store opening was full of highlights.  I met and conversed with lots of great gals. I shared with one of the ladies from Lilly my story about this skirt, my love of Lilly, and my love for vintage clothing.  We talked about many of the dress maker details maintained by the Lilly Pulitzer line over the years.  Look at the attention to detail with "Lilly" embroidered on the lace seem.  All of the cotton garments produced still include this special seem.  Have you ever noticed?

Look who it is... Courtenay Wardell and Jen Plym of the Queen City's very own Charlotte Smarty Pants!  As a new blogger on the block, it sure was neat meeting some of the Queen City's most successful in their craft.  Look at them all decked out in their Lilly!

So fun running into a newer friend of mine, Ashley, who writes the most adorable blog, so appropriately titled, Sweet Southern Prep.  Look at us all Sweet, Southern and Preppy in our Lilly.

I just had to include this next picture.  I purchased the dress at the Madison Avenue store in NYC while I was pregnant with my second son.  I've had every good intention of having it altered.

I just can't seem to find the time! Whoa.

Other than sharing all this fabulousness with you fabulous ladies and gents, my self-prescribed mission for the evening was to somehow narrow down my favorite items in the store to My Top Three Picks.

And so, in no particular order...

(click on title to shop)

Kiera Dress

I chose this item for the versatility.  The store has an entire corner dedicated to all white items. Absolutely sweet and lovely.  Wedding whites.  Tennis anyone?

Does it get more preppy proper than this?  Great for a Garden Party, Girls Luncheon, Brunch, Pool Party.  The options are endless.  The dress also comes strapless, called the Blossom Dress.

Adorable.  I chose the Kiera Dress, since it is V-neck and covers the shoulders, which when following proper church etiquette, this means you could wear it without a shawl. Just don't wear it to your ex-boyfriend's wedding... not that you would. Though if he saw you in either, he would regret ever letting you get away.

Alima Top

Also quite versatile, don't you just love all of the fantastic trade mark Lilly colors in this top? Like wearing a Monet watercolor on your body. So flowy and chic.

Camila Coat

As the website states, a timeless piece with a touch of metallic.  It is so chic to me.  So Jackie O. With the soft neutral colors, this coat with go with anything.

Really, everything is amazing... SO, I shan't leave out my Top Three In-House Accessories...

Spring Garden Necklace

Oh my.  Could this BEE any cuter??

Resort Chic Wedges

In a bevy of styles, how can you choose just one?!

Trellis Tote

You just gotta have the proper coordinating bag! I love the versatility (yet again) of this bag.  It is large enough to carry all your essentials but delicate enough to carry with a dress.  Don't you think?

I leave you with additional images to wet your palette. From the clothing, to the furniture, accessories and gift items, Beauty Abounds at Lilly Pulitzer South Park!

One final fun fact... did you know there is a Facebook page dedicated to recycling all things Lilly?!

It is the Re-Lilly Facebook page...

The Gathering Place for Lilly Lovers to Buy, Sell and Swap their Lilly and meet other Lilly Lovers.

Re-Lilly + Lover of all things Lilly and all things Vintage = Is anyone interested in splitting the winning lottery ticket with me?

For the love of classic colorful style, Bon Weekend!  xo-Whitley

Some most Stylish items for your weekend ahead in the Queen City

Slate Interiors Clean Slate Sale

Hello Friends!  With Fashion Friday taking place a bit early this week, I've got a few fun "goings on" this week in the Queen City to share with you.  First, as a follow up to my post last week about the fabulous home furnishings store, Slate Interiors, I want to remind you of their BIG "Clean Slate" Sale taking place this week, Thursday - Saturday, February 16, 17, 18, 10am-5pm.

The sale will take place in the adjoining 4800 square foot warehouse next door to Slate, which means TONS of fabulousness for the home over which you will drool.  Many of Slate's current merchants and artists will be taking part in the sale and slashing prices DRAMATICALLY, in addition to showcasing many new merchants and artists AND interior designers, which in turn gives Slate Interiors the opportunity to see what is most in demand from their customers.  I mean LOOK at this fabulous "room" screaming for a home. I want the table, the pink pillows and the chairs. Heck, I'd take it all!

Every square inch of the floor has been spoken for, with more vendors hoping to squeeze in a the last minute.  It is my understanding that the last Clean Slate Sale included several customers trying to start bidding wars AND/OR purchase from the purchasers!  All forms of payment are accepted, and it is first come, first serve.  Maybe we need to take this a little more seriously.. kinda like camping out for UNC/Dook Basketball tickets.

The Necklace is Coming!

It is astounding the number of comments I have received over the necklace I wore of the EVERYBODY, everywear Pink + Red Valentine's Challenge.  As mentioned, I purchased the necklace, of all places, at my Church's Gift Shop a while ago.  I have, however, more recently seen the necklace at the Queen City's Savviest Consignment Boutique, J.T. Posh.  I reached out to J.T. Posh to inquire about the possibility of ordering more, and low and behold, the necklace is on its way back in the store as we speak!  This time in Coral, Turqoise and Ivory!  And, are you ready for the best part?  It's $39.  Get yours!

To wet your palette even more, J.T. Posh currently has a table of select jewelry, including some Town & Reese pieces, reduced by 50%, in addition to a bevvy of fabulous Spring items arriving daily.  Look at this adorable Trina Turk, size 2 dress for $89; the original Sloan Boutique tag still in tact!  Better get to the Posh!

Lilly Pullitzer in the Queen City!

What Southern Girl doesn't love the sprightly fashions of Lilly Pulitzer?  Once temps start to rise, with lovely prints of color instantly recognizable, it is rare not to see Queen City ladies of style wearing one of Lilly Pulitzer's fabulous fashions.

Aleesa Dress

We're lucky that retailers across the Queen City carry the Lilly Pulitzer line, but now we've been given the pot of gold, as South Park Mall welcomes our very own Lilly Pulitzer store.

The store opens Friday at 10am, followed by a grand opening party next weekend.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow?  Wishes really do come true!

For the love of shopping fabulous style around every corner... xo- Whitley

Nothing but gorgeous when you GLO and BLo!

There are two totally stylin' hot spots in town I want to tell you about today, assuming you aren't already in the know.  Chances are, you are.  And if not, well, behold. Both will leave you feeling like a million bucks.

The first is gorgeous GLO, Charlotte's Premier Custom Spray Tanning Boutique, located at 1518 E. 3rd St, nestled in a corner pocket of the Myers Park/Cherry/Elizabeth neighborhoods of the Queen City.  gorgeous GLO offers an all natural sunless tan that will leave you looking, well, downright deliciously edible.  I've visited gorgeous GLO a couple of times prior to a night out on the town, and let me tell you...  Getting on your GLO prior to will instantly vamp up your night from lovely to Va Va Va Voom!

Enter to get on your gorgeous GLO.

How this works... All you need is about 20 minutes.  You'll undress in a private room, then you'll be perfectly, seamlessly GLOed (by hand) by one of gorgeous GLO's master-GLOers.  Then, just a little time in the "fan" room ensures your gorgeous GLO has had the opportunity to permeate your skin like sunshine on the horizon.

It's kinda like going for a pedicure, except all over your body, so I do suggest wearing your scrubs.  In case you forget your flip-flops they have these handy little stick-on shoes that adhere to the bottoms of your feet, as well as disposable undies and even a hair elastic.  You can choose to be sprayed with your undergarments on or.... hhhhmmmm... OFF!  Oooh-LA-LA-LA.

Next up for my big night out, I hopped on over to the new BLo ouT next door.  And when I say next door, I mean open the door from my GLO, sit down in the chair, and get my BLo.  Tre convenient!

gorgeous GLO owner, Anne Pipkin, had been a long time customer of gorgeous GLO, then one day she decided to buy the place.  As if that wasn't enough to keep an already busy woman busy enough, before you could say "get your GLO on", she was opening the next hottest thing in the Queen City... A blo-out bar!  At BLo ouT, it's pretty straight-forward. No Cuts. No Color. Just Style.  I got just that.

In case you're not exactly sure what you're seeking, they have a menu of styles from which to choose.

Here I am getting my BLo ouT.  We decided somewhere between the 'Myers Park' and the 'Dilworth'.

What do you think?  Sunshine on the horizon?

Just in case you noticed the GLO in the below previous post, now you know why!

I absolutely loved my gorgeous GLO and my BLo ouT.  My GLO lasted for a full week (and lingered a little bit longer)... totally Au Naturel.  And dahhling, I felt like a million bucks.

Walk-in's are welcome, based on availability, and of course the gals of GLO and BLo will gladly make an appointment for you.  Pricing for gorgeous GLO, click HERE and for BLo OuT, click HERE. Mention this story for $5 off either service!

You will L.O.V.E the gorgeous you even more gorgeous!

For the love of stepping out, million dollar style... Whitley

Restaurant Review - e2 emeril's eatery

Hello friends!  I hope this post finds you having a wonderful week thus far!  Did you know that Emeril Lagasse and his crew have set up shop in the Queen City?  Well, they have, and it is one hip spot.  Most wonderful man in the world and I were fortunate to be included for one of the restaurants private practice rounds last night, by way of a college friend (GO TARHEELS!) of mine with Crown Communications, who works with the restaurant on their local public relations.  I could not wait to share with you our very fun dining experience.

Below is the entrance to e2 emeril's eatery, located at the street level of the Levine Center for the Arts in Uptown Charlotte; 135 Levine Avenue of the Arts, Suite 100.

Though it WAS only Tuesday night and perhaps traditionally a bit early in the week for such a heightened level of fun, most wonderful man in the world and I decided to put on our fancy hats and cozy on up to the bar for a little pre-dinner imbibing.  Hhhhmmmm... what to have?

And let me tell you, it was not an easy choice.  Like many other e2 crew members, master mixologist, Miki, comes to us with quite a resume, and in Miki's case, he brings with him some seriously tasty hat tricks. I mustn't fail to mention that Miki's wife, Stephanie, is the head pastry chef at the eatery, and they have relocated to the Queen City all the way from Las Vegas.  Y'all... I kinda feel like Emeril's crew is bringing along the food industry's red carpet with them.  It's pretty neat, all the talent they have relocated to our city.  So.... I went with one heck of a Manhattan, and most wonderful man in the world had himself a Duck Rabbit Amber Ale.

Can't leave out these little bar snacks of paprika-sauteed chickpeas and brussel sprout leaves.  YUM-MEE.

We unglued ourselves from the bar to make our way through the dining room to our table.  I describe the ambiance as contemporary meets rustic.  Chic, yet cozy.  With bottles of wine, panels of raw wood and cut glass in fall-ish tones lining the walls, the image of a rugged yet sophisticated North Carolina Mountain home is holding onto my mind.

First up, Fresh Point Judith Calamari.  This isn't your usual run-of-the-mill fried calamari, folks.  The preparation?  Perhaps, a pan saute.  How so ever, very light and absolutely flavorful...

And, how could we say no to the Oyster Shooters?  Prepared with parsley oil, pickled melon and tomato water... OH so delish!  We ordered ours straight from the menu, but I understand you can opt for a little splash of Vodka in yours.

I can think of no better time to throw in the words of the man himself... BAM!  Don't the hatch.

I excused myself from the table momentarily for a quick peer into the kitchen, which is situated on one wall of the restaurant, surrounded by a half glass wall.

We were seated at a table in the dining room, but you may opt for a seat front and center to watch the culinary kings and queens hard at work.  Next time!  Note the chalk board listing local and regional fresh catch...

And low and behold, look who it is in the kitchen...

What?  Were you expecting Dinah?  Strummin' on the old Banjo?

They WERE having fun, though not too much fun.  I never actually saw Mr. Lagasse leave the kitchen.  I kinda like that he wasn't in the front of house workin' the crowd, but rather he was in the kitchen workin' my meal.

We did not order this, but I just had to share with you the Fried Ashley Farm Chicken Thigh served over a House Made Waffle.  Drizzled, of course, with a bit of molasses.  Next time! (Again!)  Back to my table...

Our meal was prefaced with some deliciously baked fresh corn bread; the perfect pairing for a rather uniquely prepared, yet out of this world Shrimp and Grits dish.

Perhaps some Creole/Cajunesque characteristics by way of Emeril's extensive time spent in New Orleans. Honestly, my initial thought was "this is going to be more flavor than my mouth can handle."  Do you know how some Shrimp and Grits dishes can be down right too heavy?  Well, not this one.  The ingredients complimented one another adoringly.  Feng Shui for the mouth.  Might I add, they use Anson Grits, the real deal.

Most wonderful man in the world ordered the Citrus Tea Lacquered Five Day Duck prepared over slow cooked Anson Mills Farro.  And, yes, the preparation of this duck is a five-day process.  e2 emeril's eatery + quack quack dressed to impress = one happy hubby.

We ordered dessert to go, so I will share with you what remains... though not for long!  Sweet Potato Cheesecake and this Sinful Chocolate Bomb.  I vouch for their divinities.

I love to take notice in all the little things.  There were many unique qualities that set this dining establishment apart from others.  In the below picture are two of those little things that caught my eye over the course of the night.  Do you notice the server's shirts, and do you notice the number of servers?

It's not because they didn't get the memo on which shirt to wear, and it's not because they are confused about who ordered what.  Intrigued, I inquired about both.  Each server and bartender receives three shirts from a plaid varietal, and they get to choose which one they will to wear for that day.  The second fun fact is that if there are two or more guests dining, there will be at least two servers bringing your food.  No trays, no tray stands, no arsenal of plates lined up the server's arm just waiting to crash into your lap.

At e2 emeril's eatery, there is a lot of attention to detail, and (I say this in all caps) there is a LOT of creativity on display.  I leave you with this one last image that most wonderful man in the world caught at just the right moment.  Totally candid.  He said

I look like I've just seen the best meal in my entire life put in front of me, and I'm about to dig into it.  And boy, oh boy, was I.

If you are a foodie living in the Queen City you already know Charlotte has a number of dynamite dining establishments prior to e2 joining the ranks. I give the new kid on the block a swell high five.  e2 emeril's eatery general manager, Jeff Wakem, was conversational and friendly but had work to do.  What I took away was that this is a group of professionals here to do one job- serve up a dining experience of delightfulness.  Welcome to the Queen City Emeril and crew!  I hope you will find yourselves right at home here with us.  Click HERE to visit the e2 emeril's eatery website to learn more about the menu, hours of operation, etc etc.

For the love of dining in most hospitable style... vino is calling.... xx Whitley

Conversations with a Queen City Stylist... and a Little Something for the Kiddies

I imagine most or all of us know what it means to be frank, correct?  Well, for the sake of prefacing today's topic, I will refresh.  The definition of the verb frank: direct and unreserved in speech; straightforward, sincere. And one more for our little English lesson here, when used as a noun, the definition of hedonist: a person whose life is devoted to the pursuit of pleasure and self-gratification.  If you pair these two words, frank and hedonist, for the sake of this style blog, then I would say yes, I sincerely unequivocally get pleasure and self-gratification from seeing, touching, feeling and loving fabulous style.  You?

I haven't seen the movie, but Isla Fisher's character in Confessions of a Shopaholic seems to feel the love.  In reality, I know there is at least one other who feels the same as I do, and it's a native Queen City lad by the name of Franklin Headen.  Know him?  If you are a high fashion, fabulous style desiring local seeking a trademark for your own unique look, chances are you do.  If not, then I am delighted to make the introduction.

Readers meet Frank.

Frank is a 17-year-old Charlotte native who, to me, knows more about current fashion than possibly the next five most fashion-educated people I know, combined.  Seriously.  I have a true love for fashion.  I don't claim to know anywhere near a fraction of all there is to know on the subject, but in the first five minutes speaking to Frank, I realized I know very little.  We were recently introduced through a mutual friend, and I was literally squealing with excitement after our first meeting.  This was me on the phone with most wonderful man in the world, driving home, telling him about meeting Frank...

Like a child in a candy store.  Finally someone as obsessed with fashion as me.  Well, more.  On a day to day basis, I don't openly share my love of fashion quite like this, but I was as high as a kite talking to Frank.  I mean, he knows SO much.  I could barely contain my excitement.  There are people out there who know a lot about their craft, and there are those who put off airs for whatever reason.  This guy knows his craft, and what I took away is that he is completely unaffected.  Thanks, Frank.  Me likey.

With a little shopping to do for Frank's A-list clientele, we decided to meet at the South Park Mall.  Perfect, I thought.  I can just follow him around the mall, and watch him work!  We met at Starbucks and meandered through the heavy crowds seeking the perfect watch for a client.  First stop, Michael Kors.  Frank said Michael Kors is making some great watches right now, and they might have something of interest for this particular client.

Could this have been the one?

Me, personally...

I would have absolutely zero wearing this watch.

We were greeted by multiple associates who seemed to know Frank personally, jotted a SKU number and said goodbye as we continued our search.  Next stop Burberry, and onto Neiman's.  Through previous research, Frank already deduced Neiman's didn't have the particular watch he was seeking, but it was the most logical place to continue our little walk and talk.  A stylist is always working, and arguably, Neiman Marcus is Charlotte's finest for high fashion one stop shopping. Personally, I would not know, but I CAN look and dream with the best of them.

We made our way up the escalator to the Chanel boutique, where I of course was in Heaven, and how conveniently situated were there but two club chairs and a little coffee table welcoming us to rest our soles for the remainder of our chatter.  I can't begin to tell you all of the details of our conversation or even a fraction of them, because what I do know is that my mouth was moving exponentially faster than my brain. The questions just kept flowing, outpacing all else but my fascination.  As a result to this, I will bringing forthcoming posts "Conversations with a (do I dare say "The"?) Queen City Stylist.

I hope you will join me in the fascination and fun as I share fashion tips, stylish advice and more from my Q&A with Frank. In case you need a reference point for the experience we are talking about here...

Know this man?

Yep, you got it... Oscar de la Renta.

Recognize this dress?

Cameron Diaz in Oscar de la Renta, 2010 Oscars

Well, you see, Frank had a hand in the execution of the the Oscar de la Renta fashion show this past Spring presented by the Queen City's own Mint Museum Auxiliary for "The Art of Style".  He learned a lot from his experience, and I am convinced the learning is taking him places.  Where?  Sssshhh..... we'll never tell.

Oh, and he paints... talented guy, huh?
