Casual

One Of My Favorite Outfits

Here she is.  The lovely Macy girl.  The other lady of the family, and so I am not completely outnumbered.  If you own a lab, or any other dog for that matter, you know what I mean when I say Macy possesses all the qualities any man would seek in a lady.  She's pretty, sweet, intelligent :), kind, loving, good at spooning, comes when called, rarely complains, does not talk back, gives so much, and perhaps most of all, she is loyal to no avail.  I loved having her a part of these photographs as I incorporated this awesome leash from Woman Shops World, made from Saris, the traditional clothing of Indian women. If you would like one of these fun leashes for your four-legged friend, you may use discount code: QCSTYLE for an extra 15% off the entire shop through September!  Don't forget to enter the harem pants giveaway by Thursday!

See ya later poochies!

Jacket: c/o Cigi Guz. Tank: Gap. Shorts: Jessica Simpson (old), but here's a similar pair. Shoes: BCBG (old) from Recycle Boutique. Headband: thanks to ZoeLynn & Co. Sunglasses: Blinde, but here's a less expensive pair. Purse: Chanel. Earrings: vintage belonged to my Grandmother. Belt: J. Crew (old). Bracelets: Black (belonged to my Great-Grandmother), Others: Stella & Dot and J. Crew. Rings: Custom by Diamonds Direct and Tiffany.

Two other things I'm dying over in these photos:  the hand made headband from ZoeLynn & Co. and the beaded jacket that Charlotte budding designer Cigi Guz sent over for me to style.  Stay tuned, because there is more to come on all both of these fabulous designers!!

Statement Necklaces

For the last several months I've been linking up with sweet Marion over at Marionberry Style for her trend of the month get together. When she announced that this month's topic was Statement Necklaces, as I'm sure you can imagine, I was totally on board.  Statement Necklaces, Bracelets, Earrings, Clothes... Whatever.  Any of it.  All of it.  I try so hard to subscribe to the less is more mantra, but I just can't seem to stay away from more is more. Am I alone on this?  That said, if it is okay with all of you, I'm going to post a collection of photos showcasing some of my favorite statement necklaces.  I hope you like!

Here's the above red necklace, and below here I wore the white.

And, yes, I have the necklace in three colors.

I wore the turquoise version here.

This next one, I received on Christmas day and was too excited not to put the baby on me...

Here, I found it to be the perfect New Years Eve bling. This is not the same one, but I love it, and it is On Sale.

This one is kind of less is more, no?  One of my more successful attempts here.

See? I try so hard, but rarely succeed. Here's the below J. Crew statement maker.

I recreated a favorite jumpsuit; Gucci with a House of Lavande necklace, as worn by Olivia Wilde.

I wore my beloved Stella & Dot Pegasus necklace...

I wore it again here, pretending to be a bad biker mama chic.

Hammer don't hurt 'em. (here)

Really.  Please.  Don't hurt.

That's all from me, but here's that precious Marion (and the bun she's brewin'). Go see her!

As always, thank you so much for reading!!!  Lots of xxxoooo-Whitley

Onesie

While I am aware I'm no Carrie Bradshaw, I couldn't help but share this picture which was sent to me by a reader in response to yesterday's post.  She indicated that all the harem pants I've been styling as of late had her dreaming of Carrie's outfit in the above image.  A girl can dream, no?

My Outfit: Harem Pants: (worn as jumpsuit) Woman Shops World. Jacket: Forever 21, here's one. Shoes: Kate Spade. Purse: JJ Winters, mine is from Lipp Boutique. Sunglasses: Blinde, but here's a pair. Necklace: Stella & Dot. Bracelets: Cuff from Sloan Boutique, Others: Stella & Dot, J. Crew, my Grandmother's. Rings: Melinda Maria, Tiffany, custom by Diamonds Direct. Earrings: (old), here's a current pair I love.

I can't help but share with you the way these pants were most recently described to me.  I emailed the owner of Woman Shops World, Carter, to confirm I was using correct terminology to properly convey the style of these harem pants.  I wrote something along the lines of "the inseam of these pants create a more dramatic harem effect."  Carter approved, adding I could alternatively use the explanation her husband does, more along the lines of  "this part has a really low crotch, so you can wear it like a onesie."  Then it dawned on me, I AM wearing these pants like a onesie!  Now I just want to know when they'll start making these versatile garments for babies.  Maybe I'm onto something.  Thoughts??

Tomorrow is a Giveaway!

Third And Final (sort of)

My Outfit: Pants: c/o Woman Shops World (15% off entire shop through September using code QCSTYLE). Shirt: J. Crew (old), similar here. Shoes: Kate Spade. Sunglasses: Blinde, but here's a less expensive pair. Bag: JJ Winters, mine is from Lipp Boutique. Earrings: World Market. Cuff Bracelet: Sloan Boutique. Others: Stella & Dot, J. Crew, my Grandmother's. Rings: Melinda Maria, Tiffany and custom by Diamonds Direct.

I told y'all I was crazy wild over these harem pants, and I cannot believe they are only $25!  This is the final pair I was lucky enough to bring home from my visit with the lovely and adorable Carter, owner of Woman Shops World.  Among the pairs upon styles upon fabrics available, it was all I could do not to come home with more.  I carefully narrowed my choices down to three.  Of all three pairs, these have the lowest inseam, allowing for a more dramatic harem style.  With so much color in the pants, I had lots of options for the shirt, shoes and accessories.  My new Kate Spade slingbacks (love!) were calling my name, so black it was.  I can't wait to show you tomorrow one more way I styled this same pair of pants.

Thanks so much for reading! Whitley

Simplify

Outfit Credits Here.

I've been a busy bee working on some exciting projects, one of which includes the simplification of the Queen City Style.  This was originally a place to share anything and everything I deemed stylish--fabulous fashion, great home design, stylish places, entertaining and my enjoyment in writing.  Since November 2011, I've had such fun sharing my love of all things stylish, and more so, reading what you've had to say about it.  I was soon able to see that I was getting the most feedback on fashion-inspired posts, so I began tailoring my content to reflect that. I've enjoyed every step of the way, and I have excitedly embraced your interest in fashion.  I will continue to work to incorporate non-fashion topics of style into the content, be it through photos and/or abbreviated writing.  As the Queen City Style has evolved into a fashion blog, I've realized the look needs to be simplified.  In the world of fashion blogging, it's true; a picture says a thousand words. I feel this is exactly where I need to be, and I am so, so grateful you are here with me.  I write this post from Pawley's Island, SC, a place of joy, simplification and calm since childhood.  Thank you for making the Queen City Style that place for me now.  I hope you like the new look!

So happy and grateful to share with you my style... Whitley

Genie In A Bottle

Later, alligator!

My Outfit: Vest: c/o Cigi Guz. Pants: Woman Shops World. Tank: Gap. Shoes: Cole Haan, mine are from Sloan Boutique. Clutch: JJ Winters, mine is from Lipp Boutique. Sunglasses: Blinde, but here's a less expensive pair. Earrings: Luv Aj, last seen here. Bracelets: Stella & Dot, J. Crew, My Grandmother's. Rings: Melinda Maria, Tiffany, Custom by Diamonds Direct.

Today I'm styling another bad mamma jamma pair of harem pants from Woman Shops World.  I cannot get enough of these trousers.  Most of the articles here I wear on a daily basis... the sunnies, the bracelets and rings, my favorite pair of earrings, fav Gap tank which I own in four colors, and the shoes and bag which I've worn all summer long.  When local budding clothing designer Cigi Guz loaned me this vintage beaded vest, I about went over the deep end. I'm not sure what you would call this outfit, but if it's okay with you, I am calling it bad ass. Woman Shops World is offering 15% off all merchandise using code QCSTYLE at check out.  Stay tuned for still more fab to come from both Woman Shops World and Cigi Guz!

For the love of styling it with fun...

Thank you so, so, so much for reading!!!!  Whitley

Style Path

I've had an obsession with cocktail dresses since I first started wearing them.  I would buy a dress without an occasion (and still do) when I felt I could not live without it.  I never rid of the dresses. This Cynthia Rowley has always been a favorite.  I purchased it my senior year of high school from the first boutique I ever came to love, Constance Boutique, in my hometown of Asheville, NC.  The owner is a friend and one of the most inspirational people in my life when it comes to fashion. Constance has always had a strong sense of style that is all her own.  I look at this outfit, acknowledging it is a little off the beaten path with the layering of the belts and the pattern repeat, and it reminds me of Constance.  She always did her own thing, much like my Grandmother.  It's not for everybody, but it is for me.

Dress: Cynthia Rowley (so old!), from Constance Boutique, but this one's pretty fun. Denim Jacket: Gap. Shoes: Nine West. Gold Belt: Raina (old), here's one. Circle Belt: Target (old). Clutch: JJ Winters, mine is from Lipp Boutique. Sunglasses: Blinde, but here's a less expensive pair. Earrings: Luv Aj. Cuff: Henri Bendel. Rings: Tiffany, Custom at Diamonds Direct.

I wear my jean jacket with everything...

For the love of a style all your own, I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I enjoy sharing it with you!

Thank you for being here!!  Whitley

Harem Glam

Hello!  I am so excited about today's post.  Driving home one day I spotted an unknown neighbor wearing a shiny silky pair of wicked trousers across the lawn.  I immediately threw the gear in reverse, apologizing to the lady for such an awkward meet and great, but I had to know about her pants.  Turns out they were authentic harem pants from India.  Next, how could I get my hands on a pair, and how long would it take?  So it is, my neighbor bottles up more creativity than imaginable, in the form of several retail businesses encompassing everything from hand made glass jewelry to wholesale beads to dog leashes made from recycled Indian garb to the fly boys I'm wearing here.  This was one lucky meet and greet. I now have three pairs to share on the Queen City Style and something else pretty cool...

Harem Pants: c/o Woman Shops World. Shirt: Banana Republic (old), but here's one. Shoes: Sam & Libby (SO old). Sunglasses: Blinde, but here's a less expensive pair. Earrings: Luv Aj. Necklace: Stella & Dot. Purse: JJ Winters, mine is from Lipp Boutique. Bracelets: My Grandmother's, Stella & Dot, J.Crew (old) here's one I love.  Rings: Melinda Maria, Tiffany, Custom by Diamonds Direct.

And just in case you need a refresher course.

I got no shame.

... so, you want to be cool and break it down in your own pair of bad boys?  Seriously, I am so excited.

Woman Shops World is offering 15% off to all readers of the Queen City Style through the end of September, using code QCSTYLE at check out. Not to mention, you'll freak when you see the price.  Stay tuned for more fun merch from Woman Shops World!

For the love of having fun in fab pants, always in style...

For The Boys And The Bag

As you probably suspected, I've been playing dress up for a long time.  You also may or may not know that I am a tomboy.  Perhaps it's because I have an athletic Dad who loved to throw the ball with me as a child and a Mom who possessed a take no prisoners sense of determination.  Maybe it's because I grew up an only child in a neighborhood predominantly of boys; boys that I tried so hard to keep up with (and I pretty much did, albeit against their wishes much of the time), but needless to say, if the boys could do it, nothing was going to stand in my way of doing it too.  But then there's this other side of me.  I am obsessed with playing dress up.  I seriously could do it all day long.  So, when my lifelong friend, Ann Roth, actress, fellow dribbler, shoe and bag designer sent over this gorgeous ODBF Tote, I was all girly girl squealing in delight.  I previously considered pairing this skirt and top for an outfit, but I haven't until now, and it is all because of is this killer bag.  Big, bold, bright and fun- perfection!

The best part...

Shirt: Anthropologie (old), I like this one. Skirt: J. Crew, last seen here. Shoes: Steve Madden. Bag: c/o Ann Roth Shoes. Sunglasses: Blinde, but here's a less expensive pair. Earrings: Bauble Bar (LOVE these in every color!). Necklace: Vintage, belonged to my Grandmother-in-law. Cuff: Henri Bendel. Rings: Tiffany, Custom by Diamonds Direct, belonged to my Great-Grandmother.

...100% of profits from the sale of this bag will be donated to the Orange Duffle Bag Foundation, an organization that provides ongoing support for at-risk and homeless youth. The cherry on top?  Ann is offering the Queen City Style readers 35% off this bag when you use code QUEENCITY at (very important) Step 2 of check out.  And the sprinkles?  Ann's got to make some room for fall merchandise, so all styles of Ann Roth Shoes are being offered at 50% off through the month of August. A few of my favs... Hotsy TotsyVegas, and the Cape Cod Day Bag.  Enjoy!

For the love of styling, shopping and giving, in the very best style,

LOTS of love to each and every one of you!!!  Whitley

Motorcycles, Mac's and Mojo

I've been sitting on this post for about two months, waiting for what felt like the right moment to hit the publish button. Yesterday's post was laced in all white conservationism and sophistication, so I felt now was that perfect moment.  In full Motorcycle Mama meets Sandy from Grease character at the one and only Mac's Speed Shop, I broke out my inner wild and racy for some fun and care free.  It's been kind of a rough several months (or year) for me, even mixed in with the abundant good.  Over that course of time, I've fallen off my bike, and I am still working to get back on it.  Let me tell you though, there is nothing like a pair of skin tight black pants and a bad ass bike to help you get your mojo back.  Like playing a part in a movie, this was certainly my most fun character to date.

Vegan Leather Jacket: Forever 21, here's one at a great price. Leggings: Milena (old), from Lipp Boutique, but I want both these and these! Shoes: Nine West. Sunglasses: Blinde, but here's a less expensive pair. Bag: Chanel, here's one. Earrings: Luv Aj. Necklace: Stella & Dot. Bracelets: Stella & Dot, J. Crew, My Grandmother's. Cuff: from Henri Bendel. Rings: Melinda Maria, Tiffany and custom by Diamonds Direct. Bike: Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide Custom from Pat Rogers Harley-Davidson in Concord, NC.

I've always wanted to do this.  Thanks Regina.  You and your helmet are super hot!

Thanks for the fun Snoopy.  I hope to 'ride' again soon!

For the love of channeling your inner care free self, always in style....

As ever, thanks so much for reading!!  Whitley

White Light

Today is the August link-up for with Everybody Everywear, and this month's theme is monochromatic.  I could have gone in several directions for this; black, red, pink, blue, but ultimately I went with white.  I think the last time I wore white from head to toe was either over a weekend lake trip or to play croquet with some of my best girlfriends the morning of my wedding day.  I have been asked more than once to spin my two cents on wearing white before Easter and after Labor Day.  The only white rule I am completely against breaking is wearing it, or any shade thereof, on someone else's wedding day.  Other than that, I think when played with the right fabrics, in the right doses, you can wear white 12 months of the year.  I have a white leather purse I carry year round.  I especially love it with an otherwise all black ensemble.  Whatever makes you most comfortable, but I think there is no need to 'fit in' a certain mold.

Shirt: Ralph Lauren (old), Shorts: Loft (old), Shoes: Steve Madden. Sunglasses: Blinde, here's a similar, less expensive pair. Bag: Coach (old), but here's my favorite current choice. Belt: (vintage), belonged to my Grandmother. Earrings, (vintage), belonged to my Grandmother, Bracelet: from Luna (old), Rings: Tiffany, custom by Diamonds Direct.

Interpreting Yesterday's Runner Fashion Outfit

Hello!  Today's outfit is my street style interpretation of the last of four runner fashion outfits from Run For Your Life.  This outfit is not a dead-on interpretation of the colors in the runner fashion outfit, but it is the closest I had to pull from in my closet.  I preach to use what you got, so dare I be hypocritical for the sake of an outfit post!  Very little was used for this simple ensemble.  A little vintage Lilly, my favorite ribbed tank from Gap and all the usual suspect accessories.  I revisited the scene of my beloved old neighborhood for this post, Dilworth, which always feels right at home.

Skirt: Lilly Pulitzer (belonged to my Grandmother), last seen here, here's a current skirt I love. Tank: Gap. Shoes: fibi & clo. Clutch: Coach (old), here's my current fav. Sunglasses: Blinde, here's a less expensive pair. Earrings: (old), but here's a pair I love. Bracelets: My Grandmother's and Stella & Dot. Rings: Tiffany and Custom by Diamonds Direct.

For the love of interpreting in fun style,

Have a wonderful day!!  Whitley

Runner Fashion: Check Shorts & Sexy Back Tank

Hello Everyone!!  Today's runner fashion outfit is the last of four showcasing Charlotte running store, Run For Your Life.  I've so much enjoyed my running and shopping experiences with the store that I couldn't resist approaching them about this fun collaboration.  Two things occurred to me.  There is definitely such a thing as runner fashion, and most of us who get into fashion want to look our best wearing it!  Chances are there is some kind of exercise involved, unless you're just naturally gifted.  I, for one, have some room for improvement in the exercise/runner fashion department, and writing this series has given me some great inspiration to break away from the free poly tech racing tee's!  I hope you've been inspired too!

Tank: Adidas, c/o Run For Your Life. Shorts: Adidas, c/o Run For Your Life, or similar.

Shoes: Mizuno. Sport Watch: Garmin. Sunglasses: Native. Earrings: JoJo Loves You.

.

Stay tuned to tomorrow's fashion interpretation of this running outfit, and then it's giveaway time!!  Don't forget to take advantage of Run For Your Life's 15% discount on all apparel when you mention this post!

For the love of runnin' in great style,

Thanks for reading!! Whitley

Pattern Play

Hi Everyone!  Today I'm putting my best foot forward with a little pattern mixing for Marionberry Style's trend of the month link-up! It's no secret I love to mix and match and play with color and pattern, so I am super excited about today's post.  For this outfit I am combining elements old and new (cannot get enough of this J. Crew Big Shot Dot Skirt) and using some of my favorite colors.  This outfit just makes me really happy!  PS--May I just say that I think Most Wonderful Man in the World is a pretty awesome photographer?

Top (dress worn as top): Mr. Blackwell (belonged to my Grandmother). Skirt: J. Crew (now on Sale). Shoes: Belonged to my Great-Grandmother. Sunglasses: Blinde, here's a similar pair. Clutch: Coach (old), but here's one I love or here for a little shiny. Earrings: Belonged to my Grandmother. Bracelets: Pink are Bakelite from summerbird and white (old) from Luna. Bracelets: Stella & Dot and my Grandmother's. Rings: BCBG (old), Tiffany and Custom by Diamonds Direct.

For the love of mixing and matching in great style,

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading!!  xx-Whitley

Interpreting Yesterday's Runner Fashion Outfit

Hi everyone!!  For today's post I incorporated some major oldies (but goodies) with this tank and skirt, to interpret yesterday's runner outfit.  I cannot remember the last time I wore this skirt.  I remember loving it when I purchased on major sale many eons ago at some cute boutique here in the Queen City.  It is super comfortable, and I think the tye dye pattern is so fun.  It's always good to reconnect with an old friend!

Tank: Gap. Skirt: Lauren Moffatt. Shoes: Maria Sharapova by Cole Haan, mine are from Step by Sloan. Sunglasses: Blinde, similar here. Clutch: Coach (old), but here's one I adore, or here. Necklace from KK Bloom. Bracelet: Belonged to my Grandmother-in-law.  Earrings: JoJo Loves You. Rings: Tiffany and Custom by Diamonds Direct.

Runner Fashion: Skirt, Ruched Tank, Wrap Top

Hello!  I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!  I went to Charleston, SC for a little getaway and had a full weekend of quality time with some old friends.  It was gorgeous and sunny, albeit a bit hot, but a fulfilling diversion from life on the homestead.

Tank: Moving Comfort, c/o Run For Your Life. Skirt: RunningSkirts, c/o Run For Your Life. Wrap Top: Saucony, c/o Run For Your Life. Shoes: Mizuno. Sunglasses: Native. Sport Watch: Garmin. Earrings: JoJo Loves You

Today I am sporting my third of four runner fashion looks in my collaboration with Run For Your Life.  I was intentional in picking four looks that were completely unique from one another.  First I wore the black running dress, then I got a sporty with tight running shorts and a tank, and today I'm wearing a pretty skirt and ruched tank topped off with a comfy wrap.  Certainly not exclusive to, but I think this is a perfect style for moms on the go.  It is cute enough to wear all day--first and foremost for exercise, but also great for preschool pick-ups, errands and play time.  Comfortable, functional and cute.  I think we all feel good when we look good.  This runner outfit allows you to put your best foot forward in your gear!  What do you think?   Want this outfit for yourself?

Head to Run For Your Life and mention the Queen City Style for 15% off any purchase on apparel.

Oh, and here's a sneak peak at tomorrow's fashion interpretation!

For the love of running around, in great style...

Have a wonderful day!!  Whitley

Simple And Sleek

Hello Everyone!  I am so excited about today's post!  I never would have thought to put these pieces together had I not the assignment of interpreting yesterday's running outfit into a street style look.  This outfit speaks to my love for bold and bright colors, simple and classic elements, getting creative and using what you got!  No need to go spend money when you can shop straight from your closet!

Tank: Gap. Skirt: J. Crew (old), but here's one. Belt: Forever 21. Shoes: BCBG (old-mine are from Recycle Boutique), but here's a pair. Sunglasses: Blinde, here's a similar pair. Earrings: JoJo Loves You. Bracelet: belonged to my Grandmother-in-law. Rings: Tiffany and Diamonds Direct.

Runner Fashion: Tight Shorts and Tank

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Today I resume my collaboration with Run For Your Life by styling my second of four picks showcasing women's runner fashion.  I wore a black running dress last week, and today I'm taking things in a slightly different direction with these tight shorts and tank.  As per one of my training partners, I'll admit, in the past I have fallen victim to cotton.  I do love the fabric of our lives, but running in the dead middle of the summer's heat is not the time or place.  Thanks to this collaboration, I'm thrilled to know there is some super stylish running attire out there just waiting to be worn!

Tank: Saucony, c/o Run For Your Life. Shorts: Saucony, c.o Run For Your Life, also in plain black. Shoes: Mizuno. Sport Watch: Garmin. Sunglasses: Native. Earrings: JoJo Loves You.

Of all the runner outfits I will be styling here, this one definitely reminds me most of what all those marathon record holding female runners wear on the cover of the magazines.  I could not bring myself to wear an athletic sports bra that shows the midriff, but if you are as ripped as those ladies are, go for it!

If you are in the Queen City and would like this runner outfit for yourself, head on over to Run For Your Life!

Mention this post for 15% off your purchase!! See you at the $100 Gift Card Giveaway!

One more thing... Please nominate Run For Your Life as One of the 50 Best stores in America!

Runner Fashion: Black Running Dress

I'm so excited about my collaboration with Run For Your Life.  If you run in Charlotte, more likely than not, you are familiar with the store.  I have always purchased my running shoes from their store, possibly because of the close proximity to my home.  Or perhaps, it is because I worked with the company on races they helped facilitate and sponsor way back when I worked in not for profit.  It's fair to say the main reason I continued to buy my shoes there was because of their knowledge and expertise, but above all, for their excellent customer service.  In Run For Your Life's case, you get it all.  I was more eager than ever to get back into shape after Precious Peanut #2 was born, and after a tip from one of my husband's co-workers, I contacted the store about joining a training group.  On a personal note, it turned out to be one of the best things that's happened to me in a long time.  It was like being reunited with an old friend (running) and making some new friends in the process.  I have so much enjoyed my reunion with running and my connection with Run For Your Life that I reached out to them about collaborating for this series on runner fashion.  I mean, we all work so hard to not only look but feel good in our clothes.  Why not want the same while exercising?

Running Dress: Moving Comfort, c/o Run For Your Life. Under Shorts: Mizuno, c/o Run For Your Life. Shoes: Mizuno. Sunglasses: Native. Sports Watch: Garmin. Earrings: JoJo Loves You.

A running dress you say??  It's not something I've worn before, but I REALLY like this dress!  It's easy to move in, and it's comfortable.  Not to mention it would be perfect for tennis or even golf!  I kinda feel like it's time to set a new trend.  Do any of you own a running dress?

Here's a peak at tomorrow's fashion interpretation of the running dress!
