Run For Your Life Runner Fashion and a KK Bloom Gift Card Winner

Hi Everyone!

Just in case you weren't able to decipher yesterday's note (though I'm sure you were, because you are all so smart, creative and can read), here's another crack at it.

Got it?

Run For Your Life!

I'm sure you got it, and yes, I know I look terribly silly.  Anything to whip out the old cheer leading moves.  In case there is any question, that second pose is the number four.  I worked hard on this, so if anybody has a better body number four, bring it!  If you read the Queen City Style on a fairly regular basis, you know I enjoy running, so I am super excited about the upcoming post series.  I'll be collaborating with Run For Your Life to share with you four of my current favorite runner outfits.  Like the room to outfit interpretations, I could not hold back on an opportunity to get creative, so I'll be interpreting each runner outfit with an ensemble using only items from my closet.  To make this all the more fun, there will be a giveaway at the end!

One lucky reader will be the winner of a $100 gift card to use on your favorite running outfit, a pair of shoes or whatever you'd like at Run For Your Life!

Can't wait to see if you're the winner?

Run For Your Life is offering a 15% discount to anyone who mentions the Queen City Style with your purchase.  I hope you enjoy, and of course, I can't wait to hear which outfit is your favorite! Click here to see if you were the winner of the KK Bloom $50 Gift Card Giveaway.

For the love of exercising in great style, thanks so much for reading!

J. Crew Love: Nautical Stripe Shorts and Embroidered Jacket

I'm back to loving all things J. Crew for this post.  I haven't bought shorts in probably five years.  All of the ones I have are worn and have lost their fit.  It's all about the fit.  So when I hopped over to J. Crew South Park for a little one on one with my girl Meghan, J. Crew Personal Shopper Extraordinaire, I was super excited that she pulled these shorts for me to style.  Since then, I've been wearing them a lot.  Most recently, I wore them casually on Independence Day Eve.  If they weren't so well made, they'd be on tap to join all my other worn out pairs!  This look is everything I love about J. Crew: tailored, fun, classic and cool.  To offset the variation in pattern, I added my Grandmother's flaming red sash, taking classic to vintage classic.  For a more casual look, I unzipped the jacket to reveal a basic solid aqua tee underneath and exchanged the neck tie for a splash of color tied to my clutch.

Shorts: J.Crew, Jacket: c/o J.Crew, and here's the print in a dress. Shirt: c/o J.Crew, Wedges: Michael Kors (old), here's a similar pair, Clutch: Coach, (old), but here's a perfect summer bag. Sunglasses: Blinde, here's a similar pair. Sash: My Grandmother's. Necklace: Cache (old). Rings: Melinda Maria, Tiffany, Custom by Diamonds Direct. Bracelets: Stella & Dot here and here, J. Crew. Earrings: old, but here's a pair I love.

If you haven't already, be sure to enter the $50 Gift Card Giveaway from KK Bloom!  Today is the last day to enter!

For the love of cool summer style, thank you so much for reading!!

Color Blocking In Style

It's EVERYBODY everywear time again!  Many of you have been complimentary of the photos on the Queen City Style and have asked who is taking them.  That would be most wonderful man in the world.  I have a photography crew consisting of the aforementioned Captain, Precious Peanut #1 and Precious Peanut #2.  When taking the pictures, I try to think of wide open spaces with sidewalks or paths.  PP #1 takes his scooter, and PP #2 is strapped into a stroller full of snacks to help him through the agony.  I gave most wonderful man in the world this moniker for a reason.  He is not perfect, though at times I half jokingly explain that it's not easy being married to Mr. Perfect.  Honey, I know this is embarrassing, but I just want to share who the wonderful, patient and kind man behind the camera is.  Due to my photographer's absence I was not able to get together a fresh outfit for this month's EBEW theme: Color Blocking.  As I'm pretty obsessed with color, many of my posts already incorporate color blocking.  So, here is a little montage I put together.

Birthday Night Out

Even my living room is color blocked!

Living Room Reveal

So, I was absolutely thrilled to learn I was mentioned in the August issue of my Style Bible, In Style Magazine.  Seriously, I have been subscribing since I was 18 years old.  I remembered loving how they styled a Polka-Dot Skirt in three different ways. Shortly thereafter, the skirt I'm wearing (now ON SALE here) below showed up in the window of my favorite retailer, J. Crew.  I had to have it.  Then, I was inspired by a fellow fashion blogger, Kimberly Smith of Penny Pincher Fashion, to submit my own Inspired by InStyle look. I could have sworn I recognized Kimberly in the June issue, and sure enough it was her!  Thank you to In Style for deeming me fashionable enough to be included in your pages, to my mom and best friend for the J. Crew Birthday Gift Card which got me this awesome skirt, to my awesome friends over at J. Crew South Park and to most wonderful man in the world for taking such great photos.  Honestly, what inspires me the most is each of you reading this.  Thank you for your support and the sheer joy you bring me!

For the love of great style filled with color and joy!

Romper Ease

Yesterday I shared with you some cocktail party outfit ideas as an alternative to the little black dress.  As I mentioned, I've really been in to wearing shorts for an evening out on the town.  They are comfortable and cool in this 100+ degree weather we are experiencing here in the Queen City.  They are so versatile, because you can style them with different accents and accessories for so many unique looks!  Another thing I'm in love with right now is the romper.  Talk about easy.  There are so many fun options in both short and long lengths.  I think it is a playful alternative to wearing a dress.  I recently snatched this number from the 75% off sale rack at one of my favorite boutiques, KK Bloom, voted Charlotte's 2012 Best Boutique by Charlotte Magazine.  Using the scarf as a headband, pearl necklace and woven clutch, I've styled it in sophisticated manner below, but last week I wore it out for dinner, paired with tough metal accessories for a  much edgier look.  One other note of interest, I am SO excited to let you know KK Bloom will be offering a  $50 Gift Card Giveaway here on the Queen City Style!  Stay Tuned!!

Romper: Wink at KK Bloom. Shoes: Maria Sharapova by Cole Haan. Clutch: Coach (old), but here's one, or here. Pearl Necklace: J. Crew (old), but here's one I like. Pendant Necklace: An old ring belonging to Grandmother, turned into a necklace.  Earrings: Gift from a friend. Sunglasses: Blinde, here's a similar pair. Sash: Old Navy (old). Right Arm Bracelet: Custom Made by Clewis Reid. Left Arm Bracelets: Stella & Dot here and now on SALE here, J. Crew.  Right Hand Ring: Melinda Maria.  Left Hand: Tiffany and Custom by Diamonds Direct.

For the love of styling fun and free, hope you have a wonderful holiday!!

The Epitome of California Cool

This past weekend marked the annual Crook family reunion.

This is my father's mother's family.  My Grandmother, who passed away in 2010, was the youngest of 11 siblings.  At 95 years of age, she was the last of the siblings to pass.  As you can probably imagine, this brings a lot of people together at one time, which is so much fun.  We lost loved ones over this past year, and we remember them in our hearts as we celebrate this special family time together.  We also had two of our newest members join the reunion this year.  It is hard to believe there is a new generation at the helm.  Below is a group shot, which is always fun to try and get.  I would say this is only about half of the group, perhaps less, but it's a good showing.  I love being with each and every one of you!

So... onto the fashion!  My cousin, Leslie, who I consider to be more of a big sister to me has always had THE coolest style.  A Columbia, SC native, after college, Leslie moved to California to pursue a career in the film industry.  While the majority of her time was spent behind the camera, she's made a few appearances on the front side.  My favorite, of course, is in the movie Shag.  I couldn't find a clip on-line where you can see Leslie, but she was in this incredible scene that gives me goosebumps every time I watch.

Best. Movie. Ever.

Leslie has always had the most chilled out, relaxed, casual cool style, and now that she is a California girl, I call her the Epitome of California Cool.  Befitting, right?  The icing on top... guess her age?  Forty three next week.  Can you believe it?  Happy Birthday my dear!  You look amazing!!

Leslie's Outfit: Shirt: Nordstromhere's a cute one, Shorts: Old Navy, or similar here, Wrap Bracelet: Sundance, Silver Bracelet: Gift from husband for birth of son, Lois Hill at Nordstrom, here's one or here, Belt: Lucky, Sunglasses: Dolce & Gabbana, Flops: Havaianas, Earrings: handmade of vintage buttons and guitar strings, Northern California designer. Rings: Custom by LA designer.

My Outfit: Dress: Mossimo Supply Co. at Target (old), similar here and here, Shoes: fibi & clo, Sunglasses: Kate Spade (old), here's the current version, Earrings: World Market ($5 score!), but I adore these, Bracelet: old, but love this one, Ring: Tiffany.

For the love of being with family, in great style,

Happy Monday, Y'all!  Whitley

J. Crew Love: Animal Print Shorts and Neon Boucle Tweet Jacket

Happy Day Most Stylish Friends! The majority of today's ensemble comes straight to you from my  unequivocal favorite modern day retailer.  I struggle with labeling anything as "favorite," but I think it's safe to say J. Crew has held strong to that title since I was in the 6th grade. I remember my excitement in checking the mail to discover those preppy-casual filled pages of  J. Crew, and later, a second catalog, Clifford & Wills, just waiting for me to dog ear.  As I type this, we are half way through the month of June.  Where is the summer going?  I was shocked to learn the items styled here are part of the LAST of this season's summer designs and shipments!  How can this be true??  Better hurry into the Crew! I am 100% in love with this outfit from head to toe.

I collaborated with J. Crew South Park's personal shopper extraordinaire, Meghan Stevens, to lovingly showcase some of our favorite pieces in the collection.  Accessorizing is the way to really style an outfit all your own.  Starting with the belt and necklace, I could have gone in a few different directions with this.  Admittedly, I often times have to real in the creative freedom associated with accessorizing, but in this case I relinquished the reigns and opted to let the clothes take center stage.  I did manage to incorporate some of my favorite pieces into this classic, yet colorful and fun ensemble.

Shorts: c/o J.Crew, Jacket: c/o J.Crew, Shirt: c/o J.Crew, Purse: My Great-Grandmother's, Shoes: Michael Kors (old), but here's a pair, Sunglasses: Blinde Natural Born Thriller, also here's a less expensive pair, Necklace: old, but here's one, Earrings: old, but here's a pair I adore, Rings: Turquoise-belonged to my Grandmother, here's my fav new cocktail ring, Custom from Diamond's Direct and Tiffany, Bracelets: Stella & Dot Nugget Wrap and Renegade Cluster bracelets, J.Crew and my Grandmother's.

If you're seeking a little creative influence while shopping at J. Crew South Park, don't wait to see Meghan or any of the talented personal shoppers at J. Crew. Call 704-365-9355. Working with these ladies is so much fun.

Adding to the fun, take 20% off the purchase of your first appointment with Meghan. Have fun, and let me know what you get!

For the love of creative collaboration, in great style,

thank you so much for reading!  Whitley

Vintage Lillie Rubin, Craft Beer and Burgers

Let me just start by saying this post has a few more pictures than I normally include.  I blame it on this new outfit for which I am completely obsessed, head over heels in love.  The dress and matching jacket, a recent Etsy find for me, are a rare maxi dress outfit collaboration by Lillie Rubin and Don Luis de Espana.  After wearing this dress that belonged to my mother, I set out on a mission to find more equally fabulous styles by the designer.  I've always adored that dress, but I think I am now at the stage of full blown unhealthily obsessed over Lillie Rubin design.  Two things I love just about more than anything when it comes to fashion are bright color and classic vintage design, and this outfit has it all.  If you share this same affinity with me, be sure to check out Diana's Etsy shop.  I was not familiar with Don Luis de Espana before now, but after a quick Google search, I found this little bit of info, this novelty print dress, and this awesome maxi dress.  Definitely now a Don fan.

For a quick night on the town, Father's Day style, most wonderful man in the world and I took it to NoDa for a some tasty craft brew.  First stop, one of our favs (co-owned by an super cool friend of mine), Birdsong Brewing Co.

Everybody loves large and in charge Jenga.

We then hopped over to NoDa Brewing Company for some more tasty.  Sorry I don't have any pictures.  Things were starting to get a little out of focus by now.  Thank goodness, however, for Auto Burger & Fry Guys.  I am not lying to you when I say I think I had the BEST vegetarian burger of my life straight from this... old milk truck?

Like their Facebook page to see where you can try for yourself!

Vintage + Craft + Burger = Me all smiley happy.

Dress: Vintage Lillie Rubin, here's a hot print, Sunglasses: Blinde, but here's a similar pair, Shoes: Calvin Klein, Bag: JJ Winters from Lipp Boutique, Bangles: Henri Bendel, Red and Pink are Bakelite thanks to summerbird, Earrings: thanks to JoJo Loves You, Rings: Turquoise-my Grandmother's, Tiffany and Custom at Diamonds Direct.

Mint & Coral Fashion Challenge

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

I have had the best last two days volunteering at church for my first ever Vacation Bible School.  Both precious peanut #1 and #2 are participating in the festivities, and even the baby is coming home with little art projects.  I think I will be singing "I'm Zapped!" in my sleep for several weeks to come, but it could be worse... "Oops, I did it again" anyone?  Okay, so onto today's post.  I'm so excited to be linking up for my first ever Bloggers Do It Better fashion challenge today, and the theme is Mint + Coral.  Literally, the only mint and coral pieces I own are the two items you see here, so this was definitely a stretch for me.  There are too many things to list that I am not, but one thing I am is determined, so no way I wasn't going to find a way to make this work!  Whether or not it is a wearable ensemble is up to the individual, but truth be told, I'm kinda liking the spontaneity of it all.  I have the rest of my life to be safe and boring, right?  Thanks, Kristina, for the fun opportunity!

Mint Shirt: J. Crew (old), but here's one, Madras shirt: J. Crew, Shorts: J. Crew, Clutch: Gifted, but here's one I love, Sunglasses: Blinde, and here's a less expensive similar pair, Shoes: Maria Sharapova by Cole Haan from Step by Sloan, Belt: My Grandmother's, Rings: White: BCBG (old), Tiffany and Custom by Diamonds Direct, Earrings: Green Sheen Bling thanks to JoJo Loves You.

For the love of stylin' it fun with mint and coral,

Happy Hump Day!  Whitley

Room To Outfit Interpretation with Margaret Fisher Interiors

Greetings!  I hope you all enjoyed yesterday's post featuring the lovely and talented Margaret Fisher and her wonderful interiors.  I have admired my friend's designs for some time now, and I was super excited to share her work with you.  I'm also as happy as a clam (where in the world was this expression derived?) to have figured out such a fun way to keep fabulous home design relevant on the Queen City Style as I have transitioned my little hobby into primarily a fashion blog.  It is such a joy to share with you my passion, and I truly hope you enjoy this journey as much as I do.  Admiring so many of the rooms Margaret has designed, I had a hard time choosing which one to use for my room to outfit interpretation, so I let Margaret decide...

As a disclaimer, this room was pretty challenging for me to channel in an ensemble.  Initially, my thought was this will be great!  All these fun colors that I love so much! Well, I quickly realized a room this size boasts a lot of color, texture and pattern for a much smaller space with which to work!  All that said, working with a bridesmaid dress 3 1/2 weeks post precious peanut #1, a borrowed madras from me mama and various other pieces pulled from the overflow closet, I'm feeling pretty proud most of the elements in the room somehow worked their way onto my body...

TA-DA!!!

How'd I do?  I have so much fun with these little room to outfit interpretations.  If you have a favorite designer or room you would like to see me interpret, please let me know!  I would love to hear from you!

Green Dress: Bridesmaid Dress (old), Brown Top: BCBG dress (old), Madras Shirt: J. Crew, Belt: Raina, here's one I love, Pashmina: from Belk (old), Bracelets: Green- my Great Grandmother's, Brown buckle (old), Wooden: from The Jewel Box, Red: vintage Bakelite thanks to summerbird, Blue link bracelet from ivy & leo, but here's one I'm obsessing, Earrings: old, Red Sash: My Grandmother's, Blue Scarf: H&M, here's one, Sunglasses: Blinde, also here's a less expensive similar pair, Shoes: Maria Sharapova by Cole Haan from Step by Sloan.

Can't Leave Well Enough Alone

Hello Friends!  I hope you are having a wonderful week! Today I'm linking up with Everybody, Everywhere for their fashion challenge of the month. This month's theme embodies a trend that is super hot at current; neon.  While I wouldn't categorize myself as trendy, I will admittedly jump at any opportunity to play dress up.  I love a challenge, I love to have fun, and I enjoy the opportunity to see so many other talented fashion bloggers interpret trends in their own unique ways. Working against time constraints, this dress jumped right out at me with its rainbow palette of neon colors.  The title of this post was supposed to be "The Dress Says It All," and I would opt to let the dress do all the work. But, as you see, I can't leave well enough alone. As much as I wanted to, I simply could not throw on a pair of nude shoes and call it a day. For some reason, that just doesn't seem nearly as much fun.

What do you think?

Dress: Beth Bowley (old), Head Wrap: My Grandmother's Sash, Belt: Raina- mine is from KK Bloom, Shoes: Nine West, Sunglasses: Blinde, or here's a similar, less expensive pair, Earrings: old, Bracelets: Green-my Grandmother's, All pink-vintage Bakelite thanks to summerbird, Yellow- Forever 21 Belt (old), here's one, Clutch: Gifted, Sash in clutch, vintage Diane von Furstenburg, Rings: Diamonds Direct, Tiffany, Cocktail Ring: Melinda Maria

For the love of wonderfully neon, trendy style... xo-Whitley

Red and White Stripes by Night

For the last post of this three part series, ensemble on a budget, we style the dress for a night out on the town. I am ready to take on the Queen City, wouldn't you say? :)

For the evening look, I reached again for my trustee Gap denim jacket. I have this jacket in two washes.  The darker I've had since college, and the lighter wash for about five years.  I seriously wear this baby everywhere; certainly more than my blue jeans!

As you can see, all of the jewelry; bracelets, earrings, necklace, rings, as well as the clutch and belt, were used in the post for our casual day look.  I brought in my favorite pair of heels for this summer, which I purchased at Step by Sloan, and threw on this straw ribbon trimmed fedora for my little K-Fed fix.

It's summer and still light out, so I'm keeping it real with my shades.

I've always loved hats, more than I actually wear them.  I own quite a few.  I had so much fun styling this one for these pictures, so I'm not quite sure why I don't wear them more.  This will be my inspiration! I hope this post, and the prior two, inspire you to do a little mixing and matching (and saving) from your closet as well!

Dress: Pink and Blue at South Park Mall, here's one in red and white, and one in black and white, Jacket: Gap (old), but here's one, Belt: Pink & Blue at South Park Mall, I also love this one and this one, Sunglasses: Blinde, but here's a less expensive, similar pair, Hat: Gap (old) here's one, Shoes: Maria Sharapova by Cole Haan, Earrings: Gifted, Bracelets: old, Ring: BCBG (old), but here's my current favorite statement ring, Clutch: Coach (old), here's one.

If you enjoyed this ensemble on a budget series, I'd love to know! If there is something you would like to see on the Queen City Style, please tell me!  It is so much fun to interact with readers in such a fun and creative way.  Email me at thequeencitystyle@yahoo.com.

For the love of using what you got, in great style...

Thanks for reading!  Whitley

Red and White Stripes by Day

For the next three days, I will be featuring one dress, three ways. I love getting requests from readers.  It is such a fun way to engage, and makes me feel more connected to readers. In this particular instance, I was asked to create an ensemble on a budget. The dress is the main ingredient, and you will see how the look can be completely transformed with a few interchangeable accessories. I believe everything in your closet can be used and reused. No need to kill your bank account, and it's fun to get creative!

This first look was put together for a day outing.  I can see shopping with the girls, or a casual brunch. Dresses such as this are so easy and versatile.  Just throw on and go!  This one cost a whopping $37.99! I love my denim jacket.  There isn't an outfit with which it doesn't jive.

Throw a belt of contrasting color into the mix, for a fun twist. The bracelets, earrings, necklace and clutch are all staples that have been in my collection for ages.  Just use what you've got!

Adding a little braid to one or both sides of your hair is a fun twist. Throw on a great pair of sunnies, and you are ready to go! I'll see you again tomorrow for a work ensemble interpretation.

Dress: Pink & Blue at South Park Mall, here's one in red and white, and one in black and white,  Jacket: Gap (old), but here's one, Belt: Pink & Blue at South Park Mall, I also love this one, Sunglasses: Blinde, but here's a less expensive, similar pair.  Sandals: fibi & clo, All jewelry old, but here's my new favorite statement ring, Clutch: Coach (old), here's a similar one.

For the love of great style and re-style...

Thanks for being here!  Whitley

Not So Mellow Yellow

Hello Friends! I'm linking up today with the lovely Marion of Marionberry Style for her Trend of the Month challenge.  This month's theme? You got it... Yellow!  Yellow is such a fun, happy color; perfect for the warm summer months. I'll admit, I get a little excited with these fashion challenges.  The thematic direction really gets my creative juices flowing.  I love scanning my wardrobe and pulling all of the individual pieces I feel are potential candidates to help complete the ensemble.  It's like a team, and each of the players has a job to do. I get so excited to see how all the pieces will pull together.  I find the little bit of friendly competition has me putting my best foot forward, and I enjoy viewing the works of so many other talented fashion bloggers.

I hope you will enjoy this little bit of yellow inspired fashion!

Thanks Marion!

This particular ensemble reminds me so much of one of my favorite fashion bloggers, the cute and super fun, Neris, of Fashion Fractions.

Room-to-Outfit Collaboration with The Aestate

Happy day my most stylish friends! Today I'm proud to present to you a very special guest, Jessica Rowe, author of The Aestate.  There's not a day Jessica doesn't leave me drooling over images of fabulous interiors, as well as her own personal selections for some of the most lovely elements for design.  The girl has got a killer sense of style, and a killer wit to suit. For today's post, Jessica and I teamed up for a little room-to-outfit fashion interpretation.  She sent me three completely different images from which to choose.  I had such a hard time deciding.  We ultimately went with the following imagine.  Be sure to check out Jessica and all her outrageous glory on The Aestate. Pinterest Who?  I mean it. Without further adieu...

Hi!  Jessica from The Aestate here.  I was so excited when Whitley invited me to do a room-to-outfit collaboration.  I love seeing how fashion inspires decor and vice-versa, and I thought this space could be translated into one killer outfit.  I totally admire Whitley's super-chic sense of style and cannot wait to see how she interprets this one!

For the love of fabulous interior style, I hope you are having a wonderful week!  xx-Whitley

Geometric Print Cardigan and Evening Shorts

I am loving this black, pink and white geometric print cardigan I recently discovered. It is SO reminding me of my Grandmother's closet during the 1980's. It has a nice weight to it, loosely clinging to you like a feather gracefully floating through the air. We took it to Phillip's Place in the Queen City on this lovely day of warm sunshine and cool breeze, and I was later surprised with one of the coolest props to date.

Cardigan: Urban Outfitters, here's the same one in a different print, or here's one, or here.  Any of these offer the designed fit. Shirt: Banana Republic (old) this one's navy blue, but super hot. Shorts: Urban Outfitters, here's a pair I am dying to have. Sunglasses: Borne Natural Born Thrillers- Doctor's Vision Center, here's a similar, lower priced pair. Necklace: Old, but I love this one and this one, Earrings: from J.T. Posh in the Queen City, Bracelets: All old except Stella & Dot Nugget Wrap Bracelet, Rings: Custom at Diamonds Direct.

Snake Print Pants and Blazer, SALES Galore!

For all of those living in the Queen City and perhaps still feeling a bit blue over Winston-Salem snagging the North Carolina home to Swedish fashion retailer H&M, do not dismay. At just one and a half hours drive time to Hanes Mall, scoring these affordable on-trend fashions is well worth the trip. I grabbed these snake print slacks for a steal and feel oh so slithery sleek.

Pants: H&M, here's a similar pair, or here. Blazer: Banana Republic (old), HERE is one, Tank: Gap, Necklace: from J.T. Posh, Shoes: Maria Sharapova for Cole Haan, mine are from Step by Sloan, Clutch: JJ Winters, mine is from Lipp Boutique, Bracelets: Henri Bendel, Nugget Wrap Bracelet: Stella & Dot, Crystal Rope: J. Then, there's my secret addiction for on-line shopping, ASOS. Among other things, they're currently running a sale on my single most favorite piece of clothing, the playsuit, or funsuit as I like to call it. All jumpsuits and playsuits starting at just $30, including this one!

Lastly, there's YOOXIf you don't know 'em, check 'em out, but don't say I didn't warn you! For the love of sleek, chic style -and some mighty good sales- I hope you have a wonderful weekend! -Whitley

Blues

We've just returned from a family trip to Pawley's Island, South Carolina. I've been going there for as long as I can remember. It is just the most peaceful place on Earth. Heaven on Earth. I can't think of a better place than the beach for a little denim on denim.

A HUGE thanks to the Sea View Inn for loaning us some sheets! How could I forget to pack sheets and towels?? The house we rent is just doors down from the Sea View Inn. What Ivana Wore

As you read yesterday, I hosted a virtual Southern bridal shower for my sweet, stylish friend, Ivana. Without question, I decided the location for the shower needed to be The Duke Mansion.

A wonderful time was had by all!

Below is a glimpse at Ivana's uber stylish fashion sense, as she considers two ensembles in deciding what to wear to her shower. Both options are chic and fabulous to me.

Take it away, Ivana!

I have never attended a bridal shower in my life (and unless I move to the US, I probably never will). We simply don't do them here in Europe (except maybe for the UK). I never even thought about having one, when Whitley offered me to throw me a virtual Southern shower. She has taken care of everything: the venue, the menu, the gifts (and you can see the fabulous result on her blog The Queen City Style). All I needed to do was to choose the perfect outfit. At first I was planning to go with pastels, but then I stumbled upon these incredible floral pieces by Etro, and I was lost. I'm not really sure if these outfits would be "South" appropriate, but I think I'd be able to organize a bridal shower (or two) just to be able to wear them!

The Gift That Keeps On Giving

Yesterday you met the lovely, sweet and dear Ms. Raquel. Hop on over here, in case you missed it. As a result of Raquel reaching her $1,000 goal in order to send 30 children to camp for 10 weeks this summer, through the Dowd YMCA's Community Support Campaign, Raquel promised to wear a dress for the first time since the 5th grade.

Can you believe it?  She's a natural if you ask me!

Now of course, every smart ensemble begins with a budget, and since we are not likely to see Ms. Raquel in a dress everyday, we set ours at $50. This may sound feasible, and certainly it is, but this would NOT be easy. Enter our lovely friends over at Lipp Boutique.

You know. The place I snagged this fabulous JJ Winters clutch. Here's a similar one for you if you don't find it there.

As I said, I knew an entire ensemble under $50 would be a challenge, so I called up the ladies at Lipp Boutique to see if they would like to participate in the giving.  I couldn't finish my ask before the owner excitedly and graciously jumped at the opportunity. How amazing and awesome!! Do you remember this dress from In Style Magazine I previously shared?

Well, I recently saw one very similar on the Sale rack at Lipp Boutique and thought the bold, bright colors would be a nice complement to Raquel's beautiful, dark olive complexion.

Raquel and her fun sister, Debbie, met me at the boutique to get to work!

We grabbed a few options.

I know you see that dress in the background.

And what do you know, but it was Raquel's favorite! We tried the dress on with a bevvy of accessories--belts, earrings, necklaces, rings, etc.  We ultimately went with a blue banded belt and triangle necklace, keeping in step with the dress's color block theme.

Lipp Boutique so graciously gifted us the dress and belt!

We ventured over to Target, where Raquel immediately reached for this tan blazer.  At $29.99, her pick is smart and multi-functional. The metallic shoes were a steal On Sale for $14.99, another smart buy, since this color will work with virtually anything.

We threw in my Grandmother's sash, (of course), a pair of gold circle earrings from Morrison Smith Jewelers, a blue chain link bracelet from ivy & leo, and a gold dome shaped ring loaned to us by Lipp Boutique.

Raquel was already styling hip green fingernails to suit!

You know we had to pay homage and bust out a little YYYYMCA!

Precious Pea number two was so excited to be in on the action! He's seen most wonderful man in the world (AKA Daddy) take a gazillion pictures of his Mama, so he was thrilled to provide a little guidance at our photo shoot.

Raquel, I had SO much fun stylin' with you!!

And you know Hanky loves ya!

You look ravishing, my dear!

This was such a wonderful, fun opportunity to give back. I am very grateful for my membership at the YMCA. I couldn't have imagined a better opportunity for the Queen City Style's first venture in philanthropy. Many thanks to all the friends who donated money, to Raquel for being so fun and easy going during her brave time, to all my YMCA friends and to Lipp Boutique for being so generous. Y'all ROCK!

While the Dowd YMCA has reached their goal of sending 30+ children to camp this summer, there is always a capacity to do more for others. Click HERE if you would like to donate or more learn more about the YMCA of Greater Charlotte or locate a YMCA in your area.
